Wish me 'break a leg", folks --- I have an actual in-person audition tonight. (Remember those?!)
It's Gilbert & Sullivan (a modern-day parody rewrite of "HMS Pinafore"), so it's right up my alley, but I'm still kinda nervous. I don't think there will be too many other basses going for this, and not too many of 'em can blast their way through a 50-piece orchestra on a low F, all of which works in my favour. Still....
I just wish I knew why all my friends keep telling me, "Matt, you were born to play the part of the villain!"
Best,
Matt |

Go get 'em, Matt.
Do your thing.
Just focus on yourself and what you're doing. The rest is out of your hands.
(yeah; listen to him....as if he knows...movie audition Wednesday and has heard nothing yet but that ominously legthening hush...) |

Yes, break a leg AND a vocal chord, Matt! Be sure to let us all know how you do!
Mind if I hijack your thread (as I am so prone to do) to put in a plug for a show I'm in that opens up this week? I have the male lead (Of George Hay) in the hysterical comedy "Moon Over Buffalo" at the extremely gifted community theater that I've been active in for over a decade. (I don't do musicals. While I'm a capable musician, I do NOT sing well at all)

Y'know, this may be the first audition I've had where I've been expected to supply a cat-o'-nine-tails as a prop!
Great part, Scott! Knock 'em dead! (And as for not doing musicals: you think Harvey Fierstein can sing??! Hasn't slowed him down a whole lot... )
Best,
Matt |

Gee, as long as the flood-gate's been opened...
I'm off to perform as Dr. Lyman in Bus Stop at Glendale, CA...
Supposed to have reviewers and judges from AACTFest there, I believe.
Send me some love!,

Matt-
Go get'em!
I think I mentioned this somewhere, I just finished a role as Tevye in Fiddler on the roof.
It was fun fun fun!
I don't think I would ever do it as a career, but I have always had this creative bug. Singing, acting and I include VO in that.
I was so busy earning a buck for twenty years I just never explored it. I am really enjoying it. _________________ 865-686-8925

Arrrrrrrgh! So they're being very coy about this. Haven't announced results yet, but everybody seems to think I"m the odds-on favourite.
Tonight, we sang through the score, with each song (as full cast) inviting everyone who had auditioned for a principal part to sing that part when we got to it during the run-through. Well, I was the only one singing the part I auditioned for, but I don't know if that means everybody is assuming, "Oh, Matt has the part!" or what --- although several cast members did tell me I sang the hell out of it.
Audition? Acted the &*($%^# out of it, sang it pretty well but botched the count in a couple places. (Nerves --- although I managed to recover...)
So who knows? But. how many basso profundo VO guys, who sing opera and musical theatre, are out there in Sam Clam's Disco, anyway??!
*sigh* I hate waiting around for callback results....
Will keep y'all posted....
Best,
Matt |

Let us know, Matt.
I can totally empathize on the nerves thing.
We'll send positive thoughts your way...
