Does anyone here have any remedies for sinus pressure/congestion problems? I usually do some self-massage trigger point treatments (www.triggerpointbook.com) but I sometimes need something that will work quickly. For an example, I was eating yesterday and during the meal, I got a terrible headache and all the pressure began to build up and after a while, the massage treatment took care of most of it, however, I still have the congestion and such. Besides using the SinuCleanse/Neti Pot treatment to remove mucus from the sinus cavities, what do you recommend to help relieve sinus pressure/congestion problems more efficiently?
Thanks for your help and consideration during this allergy season,
Howard. |

You will need baking soda and sea salt one eighth of a teaspoon of each in warm water. Use one of those infant bubble ended syringes.
Suck up the solution into the syringe, then squeeze the mixture into one nostril at a time, make sure you are standing over the sink.
This helps not only to clear the sinuses, but takes down any inflammation.

... or for an easier nasal rinse, just check for "Neilmed" at your pharmacy.
It comes with a bottle, pre-measured salt solution packets, instructions.
Best if it's used on a daily basis instead of when you've got problems already.
I've been using it for about 2 months - really helps...
My 2 cents,

This might sound unpalatable, sorry. (Click away if you are easily upset) but my chiropractor does this thing called Neurocranial Restructuring (NCR) in which he basically inflates a mini balloon in your nasal passage quickly, with the intent of restructuring the sphenoid bone, I think, but also helping with breathing/sinus and a host of other stuff, if you believe the website. I've had it done. I swear I have more breathing room. A friend of mine also went off her sleep apnea machine after this treatment. She told me she wishes she'd never had sinus surgery, b/c she got better results from this.
Google it if you are interested. My chiro went to quite a bit of training to do this thing, and think he charges $300 per nostril.
Best of luck.

Please check into any medical procedure prior to getting it done.
I haven't experienced NCR myself, but that "quick Google" brought up some disturbing cases (lawsuits, complications, at least one death).
NCR is also being touted as a "Cure-All", so if you're interested, find a Chiropractor you trust and discuss it fully with them. Then research some more...
The sky is falling!
(ok, I'm a bit over-dramatic)

Good advice. Of course, I wasn't aware of any complications. But you should be cautious.
In fact, medical doctors are doing this procedure for severe cases of sinusitis now, but they're doing it surgically with anesthesia. Saw something on ABC news 20/20 regarding it. It would be interesting if the medical establishment was just trying to denigrate chiropractic AGAIN, whilst taking the procedure and claiming it as their own. I'm just very skeptical about the medical establishment, especially the pharm industry.
There definitely is NO magic pill or cure-all.

Absolutely Heather - there are plenty of cases where alternative medicine works better with fewer side effects... The popular ones will be absorbed by the medical community due to their effectiveness and profit margin.
I exercize the same caution with my MD as I do with any other route. After all, it's my health on the line.
My favorite is the "It's All Natural" claim... yeah, right... So's Arsenic!,
