Okay, so if anyone has peaked in at my -6db topic, you've probably come to the same conclusion that Michael and I did. I need a completely new set up here. Michael recommended the Echo Audio Gina.
What are your recommendations? I'd love to hear opinions from everyone! |

Hi there,
I hear that the Echo Gina is a great unit. A friend of mine has used it for a long time. I currently use EMU products. I have one computer using the EMU 1212m. The "m" is for mastering grade for the Analog to Digital converters. My other computer uses the expanded version of the 1212m, which is the EMU 1820m which has mic pre's and plenty of in and outs for all your gear.
The 1212m is a great starter at around $199, and I think I paid $499 for the 1820m. The cool thing about starting with the 1212m is that if you need more audio ins and outs later you can simply add on the break box to 1212m making it an 1820m.....
Hope that helps.
Happy Voicing !

| A "nichy" alternative (what I use) is a LynxOne PCI card. Pricey at $449 but a real nice card with heralded digital to analog converters. Comes with a slick cable set that terminates in XLR's. |

| We use an Edirol UA-25 D/A interface. This is a USB device so is very easy to install and has quite a few nice features. They run about $250. |

Hi Joe, nice to meet you (and hi to everyone else).
If you've ever seen photos of Harlan Hogan's mobile studio set-up, he also uses the UA-25. I was all set to plunk my money down, but then I read some reviews (on zzounds.com, I think) and was discouraged. What are you running this on?
Thank you,
~Sarah |

I was a bit leary going USB, but after running this interface for more than two years without a hitch, I'm very pleased with it. We run this on a dedicated PC running Windows XP Pro, with a 2.4 ghtz P4 processor, 1 gbyte ram, and 2X200 SATA drives. Editing software is Audition 1.5.
Have never had anything other than clean, clean sound with this unit.
If your workstation is also your personal PC and you're using it for other endeavors, I probably wouldn't recommend using a USB interface A firewire interface would probably be better if you want an external interface on a non-dedicated workstation, but they tend to be more expensive. |
