Just for fun I typed in the words voice over on Ebay search to see what comes up. I found some guy is out there doing VO starting at $5.99 with background music included. Has it come to this? I listened to the demo's and they appear to be of average talent but still this kind of thing realy slaps those who try to keep this profession professional. This guy also leaves an email address so guess what? He's getting my $.02. Evil or Very Mad

In this case, the v.o. stands for vegetable oil. You get a pint of Wesson for $5.95 and he sings "Goodbye Ladies" in the background.

J.S., I wish it did, but it don't. I actually looked at this knickleheads feedback and he's getting excellent ratings from buyers( the cheap &%)%'s zensur ). I know from my experience on Ebay that posting this dope a question, will not show in the website. Maybe we should start posting( at premium prices) and show everyone that "you get what you pay for?".

The pain...ooh; the pain.
But I'm thinking it's inevitable. The low-ballers will win the day. He gets ten of those a day and he's a happy camper.
A pox on his mic.
Then another will come along.

Maybe we should have a collective $5. special for the month of April. Whatever the deal...whatever the project.
Five bucks. All of us. For the whole month.

Then normalize on May 1. Let 'em see what they've lost.

Any other ideas?

Solidarity On!

The key here is to use standard marketing speak to lure in potential customers...

Here's the type of verbage I would use for my E-Bay ad:
Quote:
Do you want to make more money?
Sure! We all do!
How about hiring a professional VO for your radio or TV commercial?
Think it's too expensive? Well, think again!
Starting as low as $5.95, you can have a professionally produced commercial, read by a professionally produced VO, with professionally produced music!
(blah, blah, blah...)

... but of course, there needs to be a small disclaimer:
Quote:
$5.95 pricing good for 1 commercial spot recorded off of the radio. No rebroadcasting allowed. Custom commercial spots priced slightly higher. Additional fees may apply. Studio time not included. Electronic transfer of final audio will be charged at an exorbitant price. $5.95 offer void everywhere. Some clients may experience the following symptoms: loss of feeling in left big toe, a hollow emotional feeling, bleeding from the right ear, excema, myestemia gravis, hair loss, and a desire to ingest cardboard products. Other costs, fees, tax, title, registration, and side effects may occur at random intervals for up to a year. Please read all instructions prior to ordering. VO Talent is not responsible for anything... so there!

Off to post this now - I can't wait for the $$$ to roll in!,

I always thought it was that your nose would slide off your face...

Actually, I intentionally misspelled a real disease.

The real one is "myasthenia gravis":
Quote:
Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by varying degrees of weakness of the skeletal (voluntary) muscles of the body. The name myasthenia gravis, which is Latin and Greek in origin, literally means "grave muscle weakness." With current therapies, however, most cases of myasthenia gravis are not as "grave" as the name implies. In fact, for the majority of individuals with myasthenia gravis, life expectancy is not lessened by the disorder.
The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Certain muscles such as those that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, chewing, talking, and swallowing are often, but not always, involved in the disorder. The muscles that control breathing and neck and limb movements may also be affected.

(from This Site)

Though yours is much sillier Simon!

The more you know,
Joe

p.s. apologies to anyone who has this, or even knows someone with it... just listening to too many medical disclaimers, I guess...

I don't know if this will make anyone feel better or worse but I've seen this kind of stuff in other professions.

I began working as a fitness instructor in the mid '80's to supplement my editing income (okay, okay, to get to work out for free) anyway, I practised and I studied and I got myself certified. I'm an ACE certified instructor. I have to stay current and recertify with the required amount of continuing education credits every 2 years. Then, here comes some hot chick-a-loo-loo in a sports bra wanting to take all the classes because she likes to see herself in front of a mirror (see Bally's) and is willing to get paid in peanuts and management is all for it. And why not? Their bottom line goes up (no pun intended). Thing is, members get cheated because Barbie has no clue what she's doing and gives them obsolete or incorrect information. I've seen it happen right before my eyes.

I typed in "personal trainer" in Ebay. Apparently you can get one... well, an E-learning one for about $1 a day. A good personal trainer worth his salt gets $75-$175 and hour.

Robert, I truly hope you're wrong about them "winning". I just can't understand why people don't want quality anymore.

I'm a newbie and I know I could never command what you pro's rate.... BUT I would never EVER undercut. I'm not a VO whore. Especially when I don't even have a demo yet (working out oh, so many technical kinks). I have respect for all of you guys and the profession.

I guess all I'm trying to say is, I hear ya, you're not alone and you have every right to be upset.

Hey Dina,

Ya know... my wife was just saying the same thing.

This lowball pricing happens in all professions. It's unfortunate, but in most cases, you get what you pay for.

If we provide quality product, quality jobs will be more open to hire us.

The alternative is churning out the same drivel for minimum wage. I'd rather work at McD's than do that - hey, at least I get free fries!

I'd suggest Barry Manilow. Or Yanni.

That'll sell.

Hold On!
