Tom Petty used to sing into one! Although these days, he uses a different Shure mic that's better suited for vocals.
Now that's a distinctive voice.
But I digress. _________________ Maya Kuper, audio producer

How about trying the mic without the 528 and see if you can just run it into a mic pre and record it without any eq or anything. It should not sound too bad, and shouldn't hum or anything. I don't know if you have another mic pre or not, but that is an option. The 57's will do an admirable job if you don't want to spend much bigger bucks on a different mic. I've used them in live shows for years on vocals (They have the SAME capsule as an SM-58 and an SM-7. Anyway, get Everything out of the chain and see if you are still getting noise, if so replace the cable with a different one and see if the noise is still there.
Let us know!
