I take lessons from her occasionally, and she produced my demo. She's fun and my experience has been that she doesn't pull the punches much when I suck. |

Jane,
I've been studying weekly with Nancy for the last four months and I'm recording my commercial demo next week.
She's great and knows this stuff backwards and forwards. Good luck! |

Glad to be reading about this feed back about Nancy. I contacted her several months ago about critiquing my commercial demo and was quite put off by her emails to me and others about "hurryup, grab this opening, I have MOnday evening left...who's going to be the lucky one.....I can fit you in on so and so if you grab it immediately....so I ran the other way.....
anyone have any negative exp or find her ineffective? I always doubt work done via the telephone, feed back on that would be welcome too.
Thanks,
Nonie
She was charging me $130 or so to listen and critique my MP3 demo. |

She has dozens and dozens of demos here:
http://braintracksaudio.com/sound_bites.htm
She's obviously been producing demos for a good long while, but some of these spots don't sound real at all to me . . . there's a lot of choppiness in the reads . . . so as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on her. What's this about training over the telephone? _________________ Maya Kuper, audio producer

I've studied over the phone, but not with her... with Peter Rofe'. www.pdrvoicecoaching.com. I recommend him. _________________ Caryn Clark... THE Hip Chick Voice!

| I know what you mean about the "hurry up before someone else grabs it!" BUT, I did have an appointment in February with her, and had to re-schedule because I didn't have the extra $130....I had to wait til April 24th to get another appointment...so I really do think she's that busy. Either that, or I'm a total sucker! |

Hi Jane,
She is probably that busy, but the way she handled it I felt like a number.....too commercial sounding, just hit me the wrong way, I guess. Maybe I'll contact her again. Did someone just post that a CD that she critiqued or did is a little choppy? Curious. And Peter R, well, I will reserve my comment at this time. I've worked with him in group and had a lot of fun.

I actually cannot believe what I'm reading here. That some people are actualy "fishing" for negative commentary about Nancy Wolfson. What possible benefit can there be trying to generate negative publicity about anything or anyone??
Here's the straight goods. Nancy is simply the most fun and best teacher and demo producer there is . Her lessons are downright inexpensive at the price , especially when you look at what certain people charge for trailer and promo tuition.
I studied with Nancy ENTIRELY BY PHONE, with only a couple of pre-demo classes in person. Both the phoners and the in-person sessions are brilliant and neither is lacking in comparison to the other.
I have booked more work from the demos that Nancy produced than through my 8 agents in 5 countries combined.
In addition to all of this , Nancy is the most generous person on the planet, an if you have talent and conduct yourself like a professional , Nancy often refers jobs to you , etc. ...voice over is a great field full of nice people, it's no place for negative energy .
What she does NOT have is spare time.Nancy gives all her energy to her students, so when someone calls or emails and is looking for free info - she has to prioritise her prep time for her existing students first....as a voice over student this makes me feel a lot more comfortable. I want someone who is at the cutting edge of everything that's happening in VO like nancy, not somebody who's only doing teaching as a sideline...if you are looking for this , there are tons of lesser, part-time teachers, failed talent teachers, moonlighters, and so forth who will have all the time in the world to chat with you on the phone or go into lengthy discourse about your questions...
As a result of Nancy's teaching, I have gone on to work for many leading companies , and I'm the corporate voice of several top brands now . I have studied with many good teachers both in canada and the US, all of whom I'd recommend in a heartbeat , but Nancy is by far the best.
The simple fact is , there IS a big waiting list, Nancy really is that busy , and there's only one reason for that , she's that good. |

Nonie,
$130 is Nancy's normal rate for a 50 minutes session. It would be a bargain at twice the price because finding someone who will tell you the truth about your demo, that is the truth as connected to the real world of agents and casting directors and booking work, that's rare. You can find all kinds of folks who will happily take your money to tell you what they think you want to hear. The truth, painful if necessary, but the unvarnished, truth is much more difficult to find.
Nancy Wolfson is one of the busiest, most hard-working people I know. And fishing for negative comments about her seems rather odd, at best. What's the point of that?
As for telephone coaching, that's all I've done with Nancy. I've studied with other coaches in person and didn't gain a fraction of the insights and value that I have by talking with Nancy on the phone. |

Nonie,
All things considered, perhaps you'd rather be in Philadelphia?

I'd like to jump in here. Nancy has a fine reputation. Even though I do not study with Nancy, it is very normal these days to work with a voice coach by phone. That's just the business we are in if you want to work with a good coach in todays technological world. I currently work with another coach out of LA, even though I live in Cleveland. I have never had a problem with using a phone. I am sure if Nancy was hurrying you along, she was trying to work you into her schedule. There's only so many hours in a day or so many students in a class.
You want a coach to be honest with you. Thats how you improve. If you suck, they need to tell you that...so you both can get it fixed. Oh, and the $140 for an hour....I wish I was only paying that...lol. _________________ WWW.AIRWAVETALENT.COM
