... because they MIGHT become BIG clients.
about a year ago I did a very low budget video vo for a realtor - describing some hunting property he had for sale. about 4 months ago he bought the whole group of agencies. this morning i get a call ... and he wants audio for ALL the properties they list. Officially a "poop load" of them. he didn't bid the project, he only made one call and we worked out a very nice arrangement for a monthly retainer.
i don't post this to toot my own horn (well, maybe a little) BUT to remind us all that sometimes little fish grow up to be big fish. _________________ From the rocking of the cradle to the rolling of the hearse ... the going up was worth the coming down. - Kris Kristofferson

Cheers Todd...
...not to imply that you were one, but it says something about the bottomfeeders too.

Good for you Todd. Thanks for sharing. That is an approach I am trying to take in answering leads. Now if I could only get one to bite. Patience persists. _________________ Keith D. Milby - voices.keithdmilby.com |

You know, Todd, this just reinforces a critical work ethic: No matter what you do, do it well, to the best of your ability. No matter how small or large a project, a job worth doing is worth doing to the best of your ability. You never know how it may come back to reward you (or bite you in your butt if you choose to do a slack job).
Over the years as a web designer I always strove to deliver the very best possible product to my clients. As a result I got to the point where I never had to seek work. 100% of my work became due to referrals.
Do unto others........
And congrats on the great gig! You deserve it!
BTW: check your home e-mail, Todd! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Way to go Todd, and yes according to the book I'm reading "secrets to the millionaire mind" you should "toot your own horn"
I was going to post sooner, but things began to sound fishy

Sincere congrats, Todd!
Your experience speaks volumes for the practice of maintaining a personal "professionalism".
However, "low-ballers" as I trust you agree, hardly ever advance to the category where they - all-of-a-sudden - become altruistic and generous.
In all my years, I have had only one situation similar to the one you describe.
Years ago (like, 1977), I was approached by a small sporting-goods retailer to do their local spots. The price was the standard free-lance fee for the day and we went to work.
They prospered and began to expand. The workload and the fees went up in proportion.
By 1990, Sportchek had become Canada's largest retail, sporting-goods retailer and I was earning anywhere from $2500.00 to $10,000 a month for voicing spots!
In 2004, their Agency of Record took them out of Radio and we parted company.
But... what a ride!
Still, they were good citizens... right out of the box. |

| That is a good encouragement, as the other Scott said, to do a great job no matter what. |
