--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings all! I am pleased to announce my new arrival. At 1 lb, 14 oz and 8 inches in length, please join me in welcoming my new Rode NT1000!
Ok, it's a little corny, but I figured if anybody would appreciate it, you guys would.
And no, I don't have any cigars to pass out. Maybe when I get a TLM103...

Alan,
The TLM103 isn't a mic you should be shooting for. I own one and many talent here own one too. Over rated, over priced and hardly ever used would describe my TLM103. If you get a spare grand to spend on a microphone and you're considering a TLM 103, head over to gearheadz and there'll be about 800 engineeers who will talk you out of it. In fact, your Rhode might be a better choice overall. |

Gotta agree with JS that the TLM103 is overpriced. But, a little ebay skill can get you one at a fair price. Over rated? Hmmm, almost all mics are over rated. I've observed that mic selection is a favorite topic among techs. It's fueled by strong opinions, rabid brand allegiance and even the shape and feel of the mic. Some folks will go down swingin' with a mic that is less than optimal for their voice just to remain "true to their school".
For what it's worth, my 103 gets frequent good comments from the guys on the other end of the ISDN line. I like it when they're happy. So, it's my current favorite mic for my voice.
There is no "one size fits all" mic. They are, in many ways, like a musical instrument. Try one out, play a few licks and keep the one that sounds best with your voice and style. The mic isn't going to make your career anyway. |

Thanks for playing along, guys and gals. I'm revamping the studio this week and making some much needed improvements. The Rode was the first of a handful of purchases.
JS, I'm surprised to hear that the TLM isn't all that and a bag of chips. I guess I assumed it was because it was a Neumann. But then, assumptions usually get me in trouble... _________________ Alan Simmons

It's a three step process:
1. Drink profane amount of Mountain Dew or other highly caffeinated beverage just hours before bedtime
2. Have a graphics program of your choosing
3. Read posts from twisted people like Joe J to subconciously inspire you to create an ultrasound of a microphone... _________________ Alan Simmons

Little baby is born in the hospital and looks up at the doctor and says.
"Excuse me, but are you my father?" The doctor tells him no and hands the baby to the nurse to wash the blood off. The baby looks up at the nurse and says " Are you my father?" The nurse says no and hands the baby to the mother. The mother in tears is asked the same question and states " No, but your the most beautiful baby in the world. Here, here is your father." The proud father picks up the child and again the baby asks the same question. The father states with confidence, "Yes son I am your father!" .................The baby pokes him in the head 2 or 3 times and screams.................How does it feel! |

Nice one Deby!
Here's another:
A man calls the hospital and says "My wife is going into labor!",
The attendant asks "Is this her first child?"
The man replies "No! This is her husband, you idiot!"
Thank you! I'm here all week! Try the roast beef,
