For starters, the audio quality of the demo is very poor, so it's pretty difficult to judge your voice quality. My experience has shown that the ratio of work for just good, believable, real narrators vs. voice actors is probably 100:1. That is, there isn't a ton of work out there for voice actors (that's MY take on it, no doubt others may differ). However, if this is the route you choose to go, here's my advice:
1) find others on voice123.com who specialize in voice acting and listen to their demos. There's some really good talent out there and you can learn a LOT by listening to the pros.
2) When you make your final demo, keep it pretty short, maybe no more than 1:00 TOTAL, with at least 4 or 5 NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT styles, intonations and emotions. If you can only do one type of read, you'll get almost no jobs. You have to show diversity. Keep the demo moving forward, with professional editing and well-timed cuts, so that at the end the client wants to hear more, instead of just wishing it was over.
3) and of course raise the recording quality of your finished demo
Hope this helps and good luck!
P.S. I see I can attach one of my demos to this reply, so I'll attach my own character voice demo, but I'm certainly not the expert on this! |

Jackie:
At your invite, I lent an ear to your read and come away with little to say, which is unusual.
You see, there's nothing there to get a handle on. I kind of liked the evil reverb, elfish voice but that's really all we had to listen to, wasn't it?
And you do not need to read a full story piece, since the text is kind'a inconsequential, but rather record some short, fast-paced snippets that reflect your array.
I suggest you put together some variations on the dastardly villain, toss in a couple of sweet and natural tones, properly record it to :40 or so, and have another go.
Hang in,
Robert Jadah |
