Hi there! though I have done much public speaking/performing and some acting, I never thought of doing voice talent work until yesterday! I honestly don't know where to begin other than to sign up for some of these website profiles. Here is a VERY quick overview of me:

North American male with unaccented voice, owns good recording equipment, lives in San Antonio, 42 years old.

That's me in a nutshell. I did a quick demo but I don't know if it is the right thing or not (recorded a 30-second passage from a "how-to" book, and another 30-second clip from a fictional novel to show character and dramatic narration). Was that the right thing? I also sent the demo to VoiceRecruiters.com today, and put up a standard profile on Voice123. Are these good places to start? Should I be doing something else?

Sorry for all the quesitons. I'm just so excited about this potential venture.

Thanks.

Ken

Hi Ken,

Nice to meet you.

Whoa! Whatever you do, keep that drive and enthusiasm - it'll help through the rough spots...

Where to start? Classes, Improv, Books, Coaching, etc... all good options for a newbie.

Demo: should be a well thought out group of segments to show your range in a particular area (commercial, animation, narrative, etc). What you currently have is two dry-voice readings that may be the beginning of a narrative demo.

I see you have some theatre background and music. Those will help. You'll need some VO specific training, like mike technique, booth time, and how to get a demo made.

If you'd like to hear some pro demos, I'd suggest voicebank.net as a place to listen in. Plenty of people here have pro demos too...

In any case, hope this helps a bit - take care,
Joe J Thomas

p.s. hope to see a post in the "Hello" section, and hear from you in either Demo of the Day or voice over Idol in the future...

I know you didn't ask me, but I'm here... and I want to beat Joe out for ambassador of the month.

There's an attachment section underneath the text box where you post. Browse to add your file, then hit the big yellow button that says "add attachment"

Smile
