I found a disk with stuff from my first coaching lesson and put it to MP3. The "abducted by aliens" was a characteriztion exercise. I plugged it in just for the fun of it.

I know it is dry, but I felt I needed to get something on my page.

Let me know your opinions.

Tommy: Can you hear me? (Thanks September!)

It's not a demo, of course...in fact, it's really not anything at all, but Darn It, that weren't bad for whatever it is, Tommy.

If nothing else, it shows you have a pleasant voice and cadence, and can bring a little twist to your delivery.
I almost hit the STOP button with that weak "abducted by aliens" bit (and I suggest you fling it far into a distant garbage bin), but posting the rest won't hurt you much while you quickly put together a real demo.

Look forward to hearing you around.

Gotta go with Robert on this one. Love the voice, hate the alient thing. I actually did hit stop and then came back. Ditch it or save it to post a year from now as a blooper Wink

LOVE that you're doing The Who marketing thing!!! Laughing

OK, I've taken your advise, and removed the alien thing. And I don't know what else to call it other than a demo. Sample seems the same as demo. Rock just seems to be too crude! Although Robert, it would probably come closer to how you would describe it?

Anyway it's what I have for now. If they can't hear ya, what good is a face that's made for radio? Laughing

Hi Tommy,

A demo should consist of "snippets" of different types of commercials, and be no longer than one minute. Yours is just one long commercial.

The snippets should consists of different types of reads that show off the variety of styles you can read.

Take a listen to some of our demos, and you'll get the idea.

I have no idea what your background is (haven't looked at your page), but you might want to invest in a coach that can help your practice these different styles of reads before you make your demo.

Smile Caryn

Embarassed
Thank you.
I do understand.
I am just doing what I can at the moment to give some sampling of my voice.
Do you think it helps or hurts?

Hopefully this is not too much a thread hijack.

Regarding this demo (vs. one I did--Hopefully at this link)

Disregarding qualitative issues, I did hard cuts between takes and people commented that I should've used different/softer segues.

Comments for us newbies?? Was it where I cut across or what? Or is this a "Ford/Chevy" personal taste thing?

Tommy,

I think it'll hurt you. I don't think you should post anything that isn't a true demo of your complete abilities.

Grant, sorry, I'll take a listen later.... Smile or I bet someone will beat me to it!

Thank you Caryn.

I understand, I just thought it odd to be listed on the site, and not have anything to represent. Maybe I should remove my page? Sad

Now don't be like that, Tommy.

Learning to handle rejection and TBYS (Thanks, But You Stink) is about 93% of this game.
Keep your page. Post this. Name it 'My Voice'. It's not a demo, so naming it as same would set off NEWBIE alarms.

Then get cracking on a real temporary demo. Keep you best audtions over the next few months and then stitch them together in a pleasant, ear-catching manner.

You've got the voice. You seem to have a certain production zeal.
Now develop some thick skin and tenacity.

Robert,

Thank you, I probably do sound like I'm in need of some cheese. Didn't mean to be. I reallize this business is 93% rejection. I in no way feel that anyone here has rejected me, in fact I feel very encouraged. Very Happy

And I really do like your candor Robert! I monitored these forums for a couple day's before I introduced my self. I know that you are a call it like you see it guy. You give encouragement where it's deserved, and critisism where it's needed.

I am excited about the future, and I believe this is my future, I don't want to jepordize it by pushing in too soon. I will keep my page, and I will change the "demo" name to "My voice."

Tommy: You really do hear me!
