Good evening,
I'm new at this....doing some part-time v/o work for a radio station, and I'd like to get some equipment for the home. I was told to get a MP3 super recorder, and also a condenser mic.
Any suggestions!
Thanks,
Paul |

Paul,
On the recommendation of a friend and the website I visited, I bought a USB mic. I already had various software.
I have radio experience, so was very used to hearing my voice over headphones while I record, which is WAY different than just hearing your voice normally.
About two weeks after I bought the $150 mic, I wandered into my local music store looking for a different mic stand. They had a package (they'd put together) with a "starter" condenser mic and hardware device that allows you to take a mini-plug mic and your headset,....THEN plug it into your PC- allowing you to hear your voice while you record.
I've now lost the details of what the system was, but it also included recording software (cubase? (dunno))[this hardware/software combo was by the company that produced the hardware- the music store was tossing in the mic- technically I could've purchased anything].
Anyway, I'm not saying this would've been better, I just think hearing my voice WHILE recording would've dramatically helped me. As I remember, they had two different packages- One was for the above, the other hardware option had MIDI capability.
All told I think I remember I would've spent $300-$400. I KNOW this is not the quality of some on this list that use $1500 mics, etc. I just know it would've gotten me started a little differently.
If you want any more info on the package, PM me. Or ask me to post it here. I'll have to call the music store. _________________ Grant Holmes, voice over talent, vocalist, actor and web spokesperson. Characters, accents and more all at: http://www.GrantHolmes.com |

Brian Super MP3 recorder is a program that creates decent MP3 format but unfortunately that is all it creates. you can moderately tinker and improve sound quality and hope for the best. Doesn't work great with anything beyond a USB mic. |

I used it about 3 years ago for that MST3K fan vid and found Soundforge solving problems with hiss, background and audible pops even through a mesh pop filter. |
