Thankee thankee, Cira. I used to work the Renaissance Faire in Devore, CA for a number of years, as a street actor and in a production of Faustus (half an hour of Kit Marlowe mangled!).

I'm a ham, and lovin' it. I'm working on readings every day, editing down, learning more and more about Audacity as I do it, and enjoying this all more and more, every time I sit at the computer to record or edit.

And then I hear stuff like Ed Gambill's old geezer rant, or Thom's Horror Camp spot, and think to myself, "Holy cheese and beans, I want to sound like that!... only not as a guy. Hubby'd get all freaked out, and then it'd get messy, and our son would get confused and..." (and the train of thought further derails until I'm distracted by yet another ShinyObject(tm).

I want to run with the big dogs (so to speak), and I think I'm gimping along the right path.

Amanda,

I knew it! You are too funny!

OK, shameless plug: When you're ready, have Colin Campbell do your demo. You won't be sorry.

(And, no, folks...I am not getting paid under the table!)

That was very good September. Decent mix.....good selection of music. For a reference....the music could not be any louder....maybe slightly lower but still ok. Good job!

So it doesn't go unnoticed... Ember... that is a good example of reaching out of the "sex kitten" role into future range. Good job Ember.

Thanks Colin! Very Happy Just goes to show, the feedback on DoD does help! The first time I recorded the script, it was too darn sexy, but thanks to all the advice from others, I knew to be on the look-out for it!

No September.....there is NO marking down any particular level because different music tracks have different insturments. Some can really "crowd" the voice and not leave any room regardless of how soft it is. Tracks with Sax solo's is a good example. You just can't seem to get above it....while clarinets never cause a problem. You get the idea. Use your EAR everytime.....not the visual levels. Thats what you did on the audition and it worked fine. Just L I S T E N.......use your E A R.

I guess Sid really knows what he’s talking about since I’ve heard similar discussions inside learned circles of music producers, and in particular where the “ducking” of music beds with voice tracks is sometimes undesirable because certain instruments can never really share air time with vox waves regardless of gain levels in the mix.

That’s why regardless of how glutted the voice talent pool is there will still be a market for talented music engineers who can create compelling sounds that complement and enhance while never imposing or competing with the vocals. Doing this is an art unto itself but I know many of you folks can do this as well.

So many hats for the successful VO pro, marketing, customer service, actor, sound designer, graphic designer so on and so forth. But let me guess the true pros outsource all those peripheral services and focus on delivering scripts no?

Ah yeah another hat: accts payable/receivables & when necessary: collections.

A'ight. It was itching at me all afternoon, so I made my own Horror Camp demo. On listening to it after having added all the effects and whatnot, I realised it's too plosive to actually send out, so I'm chalking it up to an exercise in timing, inserts and levels.
