Ah ha... news anchor. That explains a lot. Keep at it. No need to shake over the submit button.
Get some magazine ads and practice saying words that sound like what they mean. EEEEEEASY for "easy," etc.

News anchor! Of course! hence the crispness I still like the tone and keep some of the crispness but mellow with emotion. I'm the opposite, I sexy growl everything.

I agree that corporate, e-learning, documentaries, and telephone on-hold may be the best places for me to head. When I took the VFA class, that was John Pruden's assessment as well. Also, he said possibly radio imaging -- but I'm not comfortable reading some of those scripts *blush*.
Colin, the rumble in the background is probably my laptop. Since I'm using a usb mic, it's plugged directly into the laptop...which means I'm limited on distance. Would a usb extension be worth a try? Is there a way I can silence my computer?

Okay, actually succeeded in getting in a few auditions today before the door slammed in my face, two have actually been listened to, and the attached ShopVogue.tv podcast gave me a 2.0 rating - !? Honestly, I wouldn't submit anything I thought rated a 2.0. Do I just have an overinflated sense of myself? Is this really worthy of a "Bad" rating?
Cosmetic reads may not be my *best* fit, but since there are so few f###ing auditions to try for before they slam shut (missed the Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home commercial, right up my alley, by 1 person getting in before me), I thought a regular, repeating gig would be worth the effort.
Apparently I'm effed if I do, effed if I don't. Only half my auditions have even been listened to, and the two who rated me gave me a 3 and a 2 (I had nothing but 4s and 5s prior to OutCast).
And exactly which feature of this system is worth $295?
Alexis
September, loved your Paris Hilton! Break a leg. Courtney, agreed you have a very marketable voice quality, I immediately thought "news anchor", then kept reading and saw your post that you were one! Of course, if you want to get away from the new anchor sound, then my having that initial reaction is maybe not such a good thing. Sorry...
Hope everyone's enjoying their weekend!
Alexis

Interesting to be able to guage reads and ratings. You have a very particular husky (not quite the right adjective, but I can't find what I want) sound to your voice which is naturally well-suited to cosmetics. That's not something I can do. Good work, and good luck!
I still don't think my read merited a 2.0. If they don't want my vocal quality, that's fine, but it doesn't mean the audition was "Bad". Someone posted in another thread that it's not at all clear to the Seekers that the ratings they give affect our future ability to receive and audition for leads (http://voiceoversavvy.com/ftopic2756.html&highlight=).
I'm nowhere near the first to say it, but this rating system either has to go, or else be *completely* overhauled.

Alexis & Kathleen,
Both of your auditions were good - Alexis, I might've preferred to hear a bit more smile in your read or maybe a bit more sensuality given the subject.. but really... a 2?!? No way!
Now here's the audition I submitted. I also got a 2! I wonder if they got ticked off because I didn't read their company's name because I don't hear anything bad in my read. Frankly, these ratings are beginning to p--- me off. More so because they affect your ability to get hired in the future!!!

Wow September... I am honored! OK, here you go. I noticed you read yours' at a slower pace - when I did that, I sounded like uhh.. hmm... how shall I put it... a little too racy?... ahem. Soo... after careful consideration, I decided to delete those reads. Oh well, it would've pleased some people I'm sure... ::cough::
Btw - you are consistent on your sexy reads September!

Hey, Maggie!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I agree that Alexis should not have received a "Bad" for her read...but I disagree that she should have more smile....the instructions of the lead specifically called for a read with "gravitas".
Your read started off as an exact match to their requirements, but then became more chipper....you had some really nice versions.....but, maybe they didn't want to hear them...?
Anyway...anyone get a 5?

Kathleen - these were the exact keywords on the direction:
sophisticated, worldly, classy, smooth, refined, cool, authoritative, truthful, commanding, forceful
I don't see "gravitas" other than "commanding and forceful". Now, to me... classy, refined and smooth doesn't preclude a smile. Matter of interpretation I guess. As for my read turning chipper - that was because it was a completely different version that you were hearing, not part of the 1st... for variation...

WOMEN OF V123!!! NONE of you should have gotten a 2. Are you kidding me?? Those were excellent. Even if it wasn't what they were looking for, the quality of those auditions cannot be denied. Unreal. Every one of you had a great read and it was cool listening to them back to back to back. Different styles, different tones, but quality work, every one.
And thank you Alexis and Maggie! If I get it, I might just have to get a character demo going Maggie, I think I liked your take of the phone script better than mine, you just sound more, ok I'm going to say experienced for lack of a better word, not in the prostitute sense mind you! So hard going up against you woman!!
Colin and Cira!! Incredible spot, just loved it! The production was great, timing impeccable. Did you guys phone patch that to each other?
