Happy New Year!
I live in New York City so my opinion comes from being located there.
The price to pay agents is 10% of what you make and that's it. Usually the deals are all given with a plus 10 anyway which means they pay the agent's fee.
As far as whether it's worth it, it is no comparison. Definitely.
The pay for the jobs is a lot higher with great residuals for radio and tv.
But of course the pressure to book a gig is higher and it is very challenging to get an agent to represent you because there are a lot of people who are good at it. Odds are they will have someone like you and it isn't in your best interest to be with someone who has a lot of people like you who are well established. Then you don't get sent out as much.
Same thing for LA.
So that's my feeling on the subject.
