Nice pacing David. This is a bit long for an audition though. I can't imagine anyone listening that long. But man, what a great voice. I am a fan, Sir.

Hi, Erik.....thanks for your comments. Actually, the part I read was under the "script" section of the lead page. (Do you know why the entire script is listed first, and then in the "script" section, they have it whittled down to a smaller portion?) Anyway, I only read the shorter version of the script, since I thought that's the script they wanted. Should I always just keep it to a certain length, regardless of how much copy's in the 'script' section?

Thanks again! I have lots to learn!
David

By the way, Erik (sorry I forgot to include this in my last post)........

What are your thoughts regarding my auditions with/without the processing? I thought for a narrative, it would sound more natural without it - plus, I'm trying to 'hear' what you guys are suggesting. Any thoughts?

Love it!
High-Five Keys! There's nothing more instructive than listening to back-to-back-to-back-etc reads of the same bit.

To me, Jon, you were too cartoony. That belonged in a Family Guy or Simpsons episode: Gruff and overplayed. Good caricature, though.

I didn't feel you were introspective enough, Grant. It was 80% read and only 20% personal. It also sounded 30'ish in the age range.

You brought the story-teller to it, Thom. Great dialect, right age, nice feeling.

I abhorred your intro, Brad...it set a farcical tone which your opening reinforced. It's too bad, because your read was strong after the 10-second mark, but a seeker may have pulled out way before that.

And David, that was strong. It may have been young-ish (I pegged the voice at 30 or so), and I thought it sounded a tad contrived. Like, it wasn't a natural "listen to this", but an artificial "I'll give you a dollar to listen to this" tone. That's a weird observation, I know, but the sincerity sounded forced. You were clear, articulate, concise, but you still didn't engage these ears, at least.
Were you really there? Were you really trying to get a herd of recruits to listen to your first-person account? Or were you just collecting your appearance fee?

Voice On!

I did that Medical Center read too. I changed one part of the script slightly to make it flow for me.

It was fun to hear all the different takes back to back for the guys - tho' Robert you summed it up rather eloquently there so I won't bother chiming in.

Connie, great to hear a completely different take on the Medical Center read!

(btw, Anastasia hear that Natasha feeling very "hot" since holiday return... so Anastasia bring extra air conditioner to Natasha's office before going away on Mountain holiday... part of job as Chief Acquisition Officer...not good sweating over expensive microfone...)

Thanks for the reminder Colin. The AKG 1000 is a bit plosive and I have to be very careful with it. The 3000 in my ISDN studio doesn't have the same issue.

So I am working on a new kind of voice. A little more natural or closer to my normal speaking voice. I am afraid I might strain myself doing so much phoney IVR "Please press 2 for sales" kind of stuff. Does this suck or should I keep working on this type of delivery?

And I will get back to you David. Sorry.

Listen to it again - is this really the way you talk? One of the things I work with my students a lot about is projection. We don't have to project! Use your inside voice and you will be amazed at the difference. The voice you would use if someone was sitting right next to you...not outdoors across the driveway.

Think about the people who you talk to on the phone who talk so loudly, you have to hold the phone away from your ear...turning down the volume doesn't help. That's kind of what I was hearing. Dial it back and give us another take.

Hugs,

Yeah, I hear you Connie. Thanks. This was probably a bad example of what I was talking about because the direction on this one called for a semi-strong delivery. I'll see if I can find a more appropriate file and take more advantage of your free coaching. Very Happy

Erik... you've got that RE-20/528e sounding pretty damn good buddy.
