Notice I even used the correct name in the title?
Like I said in an earlier post, when it rains, it pours.
Landed this one today............

Scott -- Congratulations! That client wasted no time in selecting a winner. Just out of curiosity, did they give you a star rating, and if so, how many stars did you get? I noticed that their average rating was 2.9 and this is the first seeker ever to give me a 1-star rating, which, if I'm not mistaken, is one rating worse than "bad" and essentially means "I don't ever want to get a demo from this guy again." Just by way of comparison, I'm attaching the demo I submitted for this job.

Lee, they opened my audition within about 10 minutes of me submitting it and gave me 5 stars, which astounded me.

The ONLY reason they'd have given you a '1' is not because it's a bad read... because it's not! It's only because it just wasn't the voice they had already imagined in their heads. Apparently mine was, and we really have no control over that.

Lee --
It's my impression that most corporate seekers seem to want a more lowkey approach. But it's hard to know how they want it read since very few give any direction, even of a vague nature. Your and Scott's approaches were so different I don't think you can judge them by the same standard. The ratings system remains flawed, so I hope they can work on that some more.

Well, then, Voice 123 needs to make it much clearer to the voice seekers that if they don't have something good to say, they shouldn't say anything at all. I'm not suggesting that there should be no poor ratings handed out. But they should be reserved for auditions that are truly bad, and not simply for ones that don't match up with expectations. I am convinced that there are a great many voice seekers out there who don't realize that their ratings can have a negative impact on the ability of voice talents to be considered for jobs in the future.

And I am still not convinced that there aren't a large number of seekers who use the ratings strictly as an internal reminder system to rank the top 5 or 10 submissions they receive, thereby penalizing those who were near the top but not in their top one or two, while completely bypassing those who were not even worthy of consideration.

Actually, this seeker had a pretty good idea of what he wanted and provided a fairly clear description. He said he wanted something akin to Steve Jobs giving a keynote speech at a conference. I interpreted that to mean a guy standing on a stage with a big overhead projector giving an almost pep rally-like presentation. I think I gave them a reasonably approximation of what they described, and clearly Scott nailed it.

Scott --
Well, I guess it does come down to what you said we just have to be the voice they already have in their head. In this case, I heard that natural, warm Southern wisdom. I don't really know what Steve Jobs would sound like.
In any case, you've been smokin' hot lately! You've got to be on quite a high.
Enjoy!

Nice read Scott!

I had no idea that you had been chosen when I submittted for this read(appx 3 hours after this posting). I wonder if SC has a way of notifing us when the audition is closed?

Look at me being needy...sheesh...

Anyway...I've gone and consumed too much caffiene again which puts me all up in the head..I wonder if anyone else has this problem?

Cheers,
-J

No way was that a 1-star performance, Lee. While I flushed that lead, I remember the fairly complete directions, and you were pretty spot-on there.
In fact, Scotty just sort of did it his own darn way, which may be the way to go.
It does seem ludicrous to post directions and then penalize those who follow them. I'd say they found Scott early on and then listened to opening seconds of the rest, tossing numbers pretty much at random.

Which is not cricket.

Kvetch On!

Good work - as ever - Scotty. I thought your pacing was particularly impressive.

Lee, to these ears, your read had some great qualities, but sounded a fraction rushed compared to Scott's.

All the best,
Rajiv
