I just signed up expressly to reply in this thread.
IMO, the naysayers insult the V.O.I.C.E organizers, panelists, and attendees. As for the cost, $500 is a killer deal for 4.5 days of noshing, learning, laughing, cringing, and rubbing shoulders with fellow VO talent. One of the pivotal folks involved, Frank Frederick, has helped me beyond compare with voiceover-related issues and those far outside our little VO world. I am anticipating with glee connecting with some of my colleagues in the industry and...we're still sharing a room, right Amy??! Wink

Amy--Yes! Mic, laptop, and a cube with foam so here's hoping it all goes well. A friend told me about a new USB mic that allows one to monitor more easily than the other (one that you might have? I don't remember) so...I could sure use a travel mic but can always rely on my trusty AT. It'll all work out, esp. in the company of the severe techno geeks. I s'pose I could have done something novel like call you, but I just wanted to annoy the naysayers and have a private conversation with you here. Tom, don't listen to a thing Amy says about me...errr...what she says about you....errr....what I say about me. Dont listen to me talk to myself-I do it all the time. Huh??

PostPosted: Sun Mar 18, 2007, 05:31 (GMT)    Post subject: Voice-International SHOCK! Reply with quote

I must say, I finally had a moment to see what is going on in regards to voice-international and all the comments that are rumoring about that there are actually people having an issue with this event.

I will be there as an instructor and as a participant. I am in shock that some (no names at all necessary) are having any issues. Of course I understand that this is just a discussion forum and everyone has a right to their opinion, but I just don't understand why anyone would have a problem with it at all.

Do you realize how much money you spend on coffee or juice or needless snacks/items in a day? How can taking ANY kind of education be a waste of money? Fine if you don't need the education..but why have a problem with those that do? Or with an event that offers something never done before...a chance to schmooze with some of the top in the world (WHO NEVER GET TO WORK TOGETHER or socialize as we all work individually or at home for the most part)

People pay over 100.00 for concert tickets, hotels and more or even more for a STAR TREK CONVENTION...so what's the big deal here?

I have had the honor to meet and get to know many of the presenters and this is the ONLY arts industry that offers the support system that voice over offers. You try emailing Brad Pitt, see if he'll take time to critique your headshot or even email you back...yet these TOP END professionals (Nancy Cartwright, James Alburger/Penny Abshire, Bob Bergen, Rodney Saulsberry, Pat Fraley, Frank Frederick etc.) will respond and read your emails, look and consider your questions and in my experience will actually treat you like you matter. To be associated with this industry and ANYTHING that it offers should be an honor and a priveledge. I don't think many of you realize what Frank/James/Penny have gone through to put this event on for you. YOu just see the event, but not the MONTHS of work (that I have witnessed myself) that they have put in, and will never get paid for. They aren't doing this for profit (as Ive heard is some of the issues, although I haven't read that in this forum thank goodness) they are doing this because they genuinely care. They are the most amazing and generous people I've ever met and really don't have to be.

If you didn't need education to get where you are, that's awesome, but that doesn't make you any better than someone (most of us in the ENTIRE planet) who do. We all learn in our own way as Connie pointed out (believe me, she's very busy to, so the fact that they take time to respond to each and every one of you is amazing). Even a gas station attendant educates himself (pumps, tills, car troubleshooting, customer service etc.) Would you have a problem with a lawyer spending HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars on University...If you don't educate (whether formal or self taught through many things) then how can you grow? You'll just stay the same. If that gets you where you want to be great...good for you. What's the point in telling others that though...

Anyway, if you're coming, come find me and say hi...if you'd ever like to discuss this further feel free to contact me directly. Happy to help you out in any way (as most of us instructos do, both paid and unpaid)

Rumours of my disdain are greatly exaggerated.
T'was nice to read your post. Verily, you speak the truth. Hope to read more from you.
Enjoy Vegas; and good luck with the undertaking.
Play number 33 for me, if you get the chance.

Well, since I won't be able to make it this year, I'll have to say "HI" from here Debbie...
hallo

It certainly wasn't my intent to be negative about the conference when I started this topic. I've seen much higher prices for less time and value. Wish I could swing it, but Vegas is not in the cards this year (pun intended).

The only point I had issue with was the "After Vegas CD" pricing, which I understand is being considered for revision.

I hope everyone who can make it has a wonderful, enriching experience. And that they'll fill in those of us who were unable to make it.

Safe Journey,

Hello again everyone

J, want you to know this isn't just you! There have been other rumors that I've heard of that aren't on this.

I just wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that education is key to growth (it's up to you what kind of education however)....

I was just shocked to hear any negative is all. I love what I do so much and I as an instructor will take EVERY course that comes my way so I can always grow to teach you better and to make me a better voice.

I'm so glad that most of the negative has subsided. I'm not used to hearing ANYTHING negative in this industry except (I can't seem to get any work) LOL

LOVE THIS INDUSTRY GUYS...if you can break your way in...its the BEST industry in the world full of generosity.

If ANY of you want demos critiqued or just to ask questions I'm more than happy to do so at no charge (within my time limits of course) so know that there are many of us who do this for free...we all need to survive and make money but speaking for me only, I teach because I love what I do and I'm going to tell you anyway so I might as well get paid for the time and effort I put into it. Unfortunatly it's taking off so much I don't have time to voice. My time goes to all of you.

Please again come see me or contact me at anytime.

Be proud of you and LOVE WHAT YOU DO...the money will follow

I can't agree with you more, I feel extremely blessed with the help I've received in this career so far, if it wasn't for all the FREE info, I'd still be scratching my head, with a blank look on my face! Every day I get up excited to see auditions in my in-box..yes I'm moving closer to my goals, and as a business person, I understand the costs involve with education, but it is all relevant to my own personal goals, for me Voice2007 is already money well spent. Of course, I'd like to regain my initial outlay and some, but like you say "Do what you Love and the money will follow" look forward to meeting you at Voice2007

Lynne
