I've been a lingering VO artist in my spare time...well, for some time now! I am still discovering my abilities as a VO artist and looking to make my first professional demo. I am welcoming all the constructive critiques of my "home made" demo here on Voice 123 and open to all suggestions of course.
Joe, I have looked at Susan Blu's website, I will be contacting her shortly to have a consultation. Unfortunately, it's going to be mid Feb or so before I can muster up the funds for the demo, but I will at least get in contact with her and mention your name!
My main concern of course is the shady people who are out there waiting happily to confiscate our hard earned bucks for classes or demo's that are not any better than what we presently have. You know the old saying, "Everyone is a teacher rather than an artist". It always amazes me how so many who claim to be "Professional VO artists", who are barely skimping by trying to teach their profession rather than "working" their profession.
I have no illusions as to the hard work and dedication it takes to make it in this business, but I feel I have what it takes.
I will be prusing the many subjects on this site, but if you know of a gorup of people who "meet" on a regular basis to share experiences in the LA area, learn the art together and have fun, I am very open to an idea such as this!
Again, thanks for such a great resource, we'll see you in the studio!

Hello David, and Welcome!
I have yet to meet Susan in person, but have taken a couple classes with her partner, Cynthia Songe. She (and Blupka) also produced my Commercial and Animation demos. Both Susan and Cynthia are VA's as well as casting directors with a ton of credits behind them. I definitely recommend their classes and demo production.
The classes are, however, difficult to get into. My advice would be to shoot them a message letting them know you'd like to be on the mailing list for class notifications. That way you'll know asap.

I second Joe on how great BLUPKA is.  I just finished my second class with Cynthia. She's fabulous. I also am just starting the demo process w/ her as well. I really recommend getting on the mailing list for their classes. Their classes fill FAST, so reply ASAP. They're worth every penny! Very nuturing, inspiring and educational! |
