|
|
There are so many of these great training workshops out in LA, that I am finding, it is hard to choose. I just wrapped up a six week Beginner Voice Actor classes with Marc Cashman - Cashman Commercials.
I've been looking at Kalmenson and Mary Lynn Wissner, as two real possibilities, but I am unsure.
So - my question is - whom do you recommend in the Voice Acting Workshop classes in the LA area (exclude OC). I am looking for classes/cycle that is 5-6 sessions long.
Thank you in advance.

In the LA area, I adore Rodney Saulsberry. I took one of his workshops this past summer & have read two of his books. He was highly recommended by a collegue and I know why.

He also offers teleclasses as well as in studio classes at Falls Trees Studios. You can learn alot from him. He's a seasoned pro and full of knowledge.
Good Luck! _________________ AllisonScussel@comcast.net |

Avoid the LA 'all glitter and it costs you big bucks' type conventions. These are not necessary. You're better off to spend your training dollars with proven LA coaches with a resume and track record that speaks for itself where you'll get personal attention and not sit in a ballroom facing straight ahead in a hard chair listening to people yak at you from the stage! When the organizer promoters are expecting hundreds or even thousands of snookers to enroll...save your money! Go for the gold...the teachers who really care about YOU and not promoting some big bucks event where the promoters make many thousands on you! These also happen in other cities, by the way, and not just LA!! If it's a "circus" don't buy a ticket! _________________ Bettye Zoller: CLIOS, ADDYS, GOLDEN RADIOS, AUDIES, Member Voice and Speech Trainers Assoc., AFTRA SAG, 34 years a pro. |

Hey Craig!
Leigh Gilbert is great! So is Bill Holmes at Compost Productions, Cynthia Songe, Kalmanson, Jeff Howell, Joyce Castellonas for promo/trailer. Of course Rodney and Pat Fraley, too!
This site:
http://voiceoverresourceguide.com/la/index.html
lists all things VO in LA. Every teacher, agent, demo producer, union fees, studio, etc.
When looking into a teacher see if they allow you to audit before committing. Many don't. Don't hold that against them! Everyone has their policy or reason for allowing or not allowing audits.
And I completely disagree about not attending VOICE 2008 or any other VO type of conference. As I've said on other posts, sure you'll find some content not worth your time. But you'll find other content/programs very worth your time. In fact, the promoters are working hard bringing in different instructors and programs from last year so as not to make this year a repeat from what you got in Vegas.
As to promoters making a slew of money? Hey-welcome to the world of conferences. That's how it's supposed to work. For a conference to be a success promoters work for up to a year organizing and putting a good conference together. They spend a ton of their own money, and if they are fortunate will also have corporate sponsors.
There are never any guarantees. If folks don't come, not only do the promoters not make a slew of money, they pay tremendous fees out of pocket.
San Diego has the world's largest conference every summer. It's called Comic-con. Over 100,000 attendees.
What started as a comic book convention has become the go to venue for all things show business. All the major studios preview upcoming films and television shows. Animation studios have seminars and workshops. The biggest stars in Hollywood make appearances. Some spend 2-4 days participating on various panels and seminars. The top VO actors in animation make appearances and participate in panels and seminars.
None of them get paid a dime!!!!
And unlike VOICE, whose promoters pay their guest's travel and hotel expenses. Comic-con doesn't pay for travel or hotel expenses. All guests must pay their own expenses.
Comic-con is a 4 day event. Some panels and seminars are good. Some are a snooze. But you always leave with a lot more than you came in with.
Same goes for VOICE and any other VO con! My participation alone would cost you $200 if you were just going to one of my seminars.
I'm one of many over several days.
Breaking down the price of VOICE it's a darn good deal!! |
