Greetings from the Motor City, where we enjoy all four seasons in the same day! Very Happy

I've been in some form of broadcasting/journalism since the age of 18 and branched out into voiceovers earlier this decade. (OK, earlier this century, but that makes me feel way too old!)

After landing a point-of-sale audio gig with a major national retailer, I decided to join Voice123.com. I've been enjoying auditioning and reading the comments of my fellow professionals on these boards.

Feel free to say hello - and, to borrow a phrase - voice on!

Welcome to the show John.

I'm sure you'll have fun here. This board is a priceless tool for any voice artist. Delve on!

Welcome to the House of Mirrors, John.

It's only part of the great VO carnival. Looking forward to hearing from you.

To borrow a voice,

Phrase On!

Dear John:

Welcome to V123...I grew up in the Detroit area, went to UM and lived in Ann Arbor until '97...now I live in Kalamazoo and have had some success within the VO industry, in and out of V123....Persistence WILL pay off, so keep goin' for it!

Your voice is familiar to me...do you do radio work that runs in the Kalamazoo area, or just Detroit? I've definitely heard you somewhere.

Best wishes.

Mike

Thanks for the greetings, gang! It's great to be here among some supporting people, even though this business is making me nuts. (Thank goodness the Tigers are giving me a diversion....arrrrrrrrgh! lol!)

Yes, Michael, I've been in the radio biz for years, and you would have heard me through the affiliates of the AAA Traffic Network. I'm still employed there, but the company eliminated on-air broadcasting about six weeks ago. I saw the writing on the wall and decided at the start of '08 to jump into the VO world with both feet. Jeez, what an idiot I am! LOL! Just kidding...

Stay in touch...

John

Interesting, John.
Do you know why AAA stopped doing the on air traffic reports service? I wonder if their affiliates stopped wanting to pay (I assume in the form of giving trade spots) or if the costs outweighed the ad revenue.
Remember these services popped up to SAVE money, by having a central place to do the traffic reports for many stations.
"Shadow Traffic," which started in the 70s in Philadelphia seems to be still thriving in the big markets -- including NY and LA, and has expanded to do sports and local news.
There's new competition from the GPS devices, satellite radio and, of course, the internet.
I would be interested to get your take on it.

Welcome, John! Not *too* far away from me here just a bit north of Toronto. I TOTALLY hear you about the weather thing. At least our weather's better than Buffalo's. Wink

I'm an Original Six nut, Jodi, so the Leafs, the Habs, etc., are nearer and dearer to my hockey-lovin' heart.

I don't get to go as often as I like to because of my work responsibilities. This is an exciting time of year here, with the Wings and Pistons in the playoffs and the Tigers starting to roar.
