I'm a novice podcaster amd am having trouble learning how to engineer sound.
Based on about 10 books, I'm using my laptop (works great) with Sound Forge 9, a dbx 266XL compressor , an Aphex 204, a Peavey PV8 mixer, an AT 3035 mic, and a Creative Audigy 2 Notebook PCMCIA card. I get good sound, but I think I can do better.
The biggest deficiency I find in all the books is that they don't give any suggested control settings for anything. They could provide them for music, voiceovers, etc. But they don't. It would be nice to have something to start with so that one knows one is in the ballpark. This is particularly true with the 266XL as well as with the use of various effects and processes in Sound Forge. |
