Today was interesting. I got my first-ever v/o gig off of Guru.com. It was nothing big or special, trust me. A VERY quick, down 'n' dirty 1:00 or so v/o for a Flash presentation. I banged it out, sent it off, then got this from the client a few minutes ago. It made me smile so much I had to share it:

Wow Scott...can I have your voice man?

This is amazing - thank you!

I'll get the payment done now.

Gotta love getting notes like that from new clients!

Scott - I don't want your voice. That would be odd. Wink

(It IS nice to get a pat on the back. I've gotten several that simply say "You Rock!" with varying degrees of capitalization and exclamation points.)

To me, the kudos from clients are the best part of the job and completely negate any rejection/lack of response.

Good job!!

I did a phone patch job yesterday (my "patch" being my bluetooth cellphone ear-piece thing) and was only interrupted by the director occasionally telling me how perfect it was and how happy the client would be. Slightly distracting, but awesome nonetheless.

Of course, about 2 hours later I was given an email TBNT by a client who I thought would be just as happy as I felt really in the zone for the read. To paraphrase, "You suck."

Point is, this can sometimes be a roller coaster ride and it really is great when you feel so appreciated. Good for you Scott.

The kind words are always nice to hear!

One of my favorite clients is known for ending every session with, "It was OK". It took me a long time to figure out that was his highest compliment given to any actor. I guess the fact he kept hiring me should have been my clue- but I'm a sucker for some good feedback!!

You know the thing I really like about you Scott is that you don't let the bad stuff bring you down and, you don't let the good stuff go to your head. (unlike other VO talents I know)

Dang, I got invited to that one and thought I nailed it - oh vell! Congrats on getting something/ANYthing from Guru, I paid for a year and got nothing so let it lapse. Glad to see that something is going on there!

Deby... thank you SO much. Your comments mean more to me than you can possibly know. I really do appreciate that!

Chris: How do you know which lead it was? Was it because of the 'urgently needed: Flash' comment? Actually, for me, it wasn't a private invitation but a public Guru lead which made it all the nicer to FINALLY get one from there. I'm with ya on your laments about how hard it is to land anything there, bro.
