Ah yes, the geneology lead. The one I almost ditched. 30 seconds for a student who is seeking - choke - TWO HUNDRED AUDITIONS???! And, last I looked, after the lead being open for a week, had gotten about 35 submitted.

Absolutely no slight to you, Colin, your audition sounded just dandy (I mean it), but bronx cheers, bullocks and baloney to him for not getting what he wanted from anyone else. Especially when this is what the lead said:

" Hi,
I am looking for a male voice for this project. It is a school film on my genealogy. Please read the script below as a sample and let me know how much you would charge for 30 seconds.
Thank you. "

So where exactly does it say geneology music? Yes, I saw a mention down in the script but WHERE does it say he wanted to HEAR an audition (for a $100 or LESS piece, no less) replete with music?

Sorry, I feel testy today.

Scott... sometimes your demeanor belies your intent. As you said... it stated...

Quote:

(Genealogy & History Background Music)

I understand there may be be a "charity" element to it and I don't have a problem with that.

I am a bit taken aback. Once in a while you need to take a chance on people Scott.

This spot presented here is presumably a "paying client" of the radio station(s) where I work. A spot I did today for a high school. Now, I suspect there is financial backing from the national effort, but I don't know that....

Okay, first of all, I apologize if I was a bit too bitter in my response about the geneology thing. And Colin, just to let you know, I only bid $50 to do it (and I seldom EVER bid that low), but I knew he was a student. So I get the charity aspect and I'm cool with that.

What flipped my switch about this came from your post where HE said:

"I have listened to your submission to the genealogy voice-over and you are the only one who did what I had requested."

He gave NO direction. None. None at all and I'm buffaloed as to what on earth it was he 'requested'.

So I'll climb down off my high-horse now and slink away with my tail between my legs.

Apologies for being a buttstick.

He (evidently) is a KID Scott. I put $100 on it.

It seems like it means something to him.

I am probably the "high priced" guy who won't get the job in this case.

But... if he corresponds enough for me to belive what he is up to... it may be different.

It strikes me that I do some of this "for the love of it."

Butthump and snarglies are good ones, too, Erik.

Well, he said it was for a student film. I KNEW he was a student, but since he said student film I assumed he was college-aged, or at least high school.

But it matters not. I'm getting way too bent out of shape about this when I never should have in the first place. I've sent out my apologies and will now focus my energies on something positive.

Plus, and there's no way anyone here could have known this - I spent today at the hospital where my daughter was rushed to from HER high school. I can't go into detail, and she'll be okay (thank God), but she's spending tonight there with my wife. Truly I'm NOT looking for sympathy, it's just that maybe that's why I'm strung a bit tightly tonight.

Scott et. al....

When you have your own kids, you understand things that you didn't necessarily understand previously.

Prayers and best wishes to your loved ones Scott.

Compassion crosses all boundries.

So I stop in for the first time in a while (it's less fun when I can't share auditions, being a SmartOutCast and all) , and what do I find?

Rampant serial naughtiness, that's what.
So as a father of five (or six; I've lost track), a Savvy old-timer, and a card-carrying curmudgeon, I can now bring out the cudgel and bellow a bit:

GO TO YOUR ROOMS!
SCOTT; STOP PICKING ON COLIN. YOU'RE ARGUING ABOUT DIRECTIONS FROM A KID, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
YOU'RE WRESTLING ABOUT A JOB THAT'LL GO FOR $22.50.
AND THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GENEALOGY MUSIC. SO THERE.
ERIK, IF I'VE TOLD YOU ONCE I'VE TOLD YOU A THOUSAND TIMES: STOP PICKING UP THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE.
IF I EVER HEAR YOU SAY "SNARGLIES", YOUNG MAN, I'LL WASH YOUR MIC OUT WITH SOAP AND WATER.
AND DON'T THINK I WON'T.

DEBY: GO TAKE A COLD SHOWER.

NOW; YOU'LL ALL GO TO BED WITH NO MORE AUDITIONS TONIGHT!

Admonish On!

Robert are you sure you don't want to spank me.....(LOL)

Just kidding....(sigh) (looks down with guilt and mopes to the shower)

(pouting she says) Alright night night.

dang! It's getting hot in here. I think I need to take a cold shower! lol

Here's one I just did today (not for Voice123 though). Haven't heard back yet if I got the job. I really liked it at first, but now listening back it sounds too forced to me. We'll see...[/i]

Oh dear...another one.

Josh might look like early springtime (I took a gander at his page), but he sounds like autumn thunder.
Just what we need around here, Josh. (Sigh).
To these ears, it sounded all right. I don't grasp the need for two takes when they're essentially the same. To me, that sort of shouts out, "Hey; this is all I can do,"

And, while we're on the punching bag, I thought your "Effs" were a little leaky. You may also have played it too cool on such traditional power phrases as "....This is.....Enterprise Rent-A-Car (whatever...)...", and "...It's the one-on-one", and "Battle to the buzzer."

With your good rumble, you could probably have injected a bit more drama into those.

Solid reads, though. I can't see anybody reaching for the STOP button too quickly.
And good to hear you here.

Voice On!
