Welcome to the Leads and Reads forum.

In an effort to have a more professional BB, from now on only 5 star rated auditions may be posted here. If your rating is changed by the seeker, please come back here and remove it while apologizing profusely.

Those who receive 2s or 1s may be banished from the LAR for a period of 6 weeks per infraction. I would recommend enrolling in dental school during this time as your career in VO is over.

Thank you for your understanding.

Jacob:

Your PowerLube was good and strong. In-your-face and dripping with Oklahoma Crude. The last line "Also available...." was not quite as intense as the rest.

Here's a couple of mine from late last week. I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with the wise guy stuff like TicketFlea. They asked for a no production/dry audio, with the only direction being (sarcartic) after the words 'on time'. There was no indication of the proposed length, but too much copy for a fast :30 and way to little for a slow :60. So what's a VO to do?? I edited down the copy a bit to a fast :30

Comments please?

David, The first thing I noticed was that your demos had a weird room noise thing. Oxford or Ekstrom might have a better definition of what this really is, but to my ears it sounds like you're off mic and the noise is bouncing all around. I have the exact same probem due to poor soundproofing in my studio. It's actually on my powerlube thing...Third or fourth word takes off into the distance. Aside from that I do like your style because it reminds me of an east coasty new york casual guy? Is that really you?
Be fun have good,
-J

Jacob:

Although not studio perfect, the room is fairly good for the purposes, it's the computer fan you hear I think. I probably pulled away from the mike on those few words. I'm from western Connecticut, good call!

Waterbury, to be specific. Pretty much half-way between Hartford and the NY state border. Lived in the vicinity my whole life.

Finally got my first AFTRA gig!

I did this audition Friday but got the call today that I got the job for a campaign for a casino in KC. I honestly can't believe it because I think the audition was rubbish. But I am very excited!!!

I hear that too. It sounds almost like feedback, the same source being recorded twice with slight delay on one of them, creating a boxy hollowness and phasing. Or maybe you were recording in a very small booth with not enough acoustic treatment. Maybe some comb filtering going on? Sometimes it hard to tell with mp3's though because they can sound strange if the encoding isn't at a high enough bit rate.

I like the reads though.

I liked your reads a lot too, Jacob. I'm a sucker for those types of hard reads as they are my favorite thing to do. Smile

Way to go, Josh - congrats on the gig!! You've definitely got the goods and this is only the first of many to follow. Keep knockin' 'em dead!

Congrats, Josh! Why don't you move this over to WHO GOT THE GIG so more of us can wish you well?

I was born in Stamford, moved to Ridgefield when I was 3, then Brookfield when I was 9. Lived in Danbury as an adult until I moved to Ohio in 1985.

I worked for 8 years at WINE/WRKI (I-95) in Brookfield/Danbury from 1977-1985.

I know about Waterbury... WWCO was the station I believe. (Maybe also YZ-92?, the easy listening station?) Age is affecting my memory so if some of that is wrong, blame it on that.

Right off of I-84 you are. My brother used to live in Naugatuck.

Colin:

Yes, WWCO AM is still there although a shell of it's former self. No longer a Top 40 giant, it's largely syndicated talk radio, Sean Hennity, et. al. NY Yankees affiliate and networked with WDRC AM in Hartford. WRKI (aka I-95) is still there, along with WPLR in New Haven both not as 'underground' as they once were, now Classic Rock formats. 92.5 has been a big Country Music station for a good 20+ years now.

I am just about 2 miles south of I-84, a stone's throw from Rt 8, almost into Naugatuck.

At I-95, we used to say that WPLR stood for "We Play Lousy Records." LOL.

As a teenager, I lived off of exit 7 of I-84, US Route 7 North or "Federal Road" as the locals called it. I understand it is now called the "antique mile" north of the Interstate. I don't think I'd like that.
