I am fairly new to the V123 forum and I am curious... how do you get rated on auditions? is it just happenstance that someone may or may not rate you? I have only submitted on 8 auditions out of 252 and yet the stat board tells me that is 10% more than others and that I will receive fewer opportunities unless I audition less.. this is mind boggling to me... Does anyone else find this backward? I always looked at auditioning as a numbers game, the more you do the better your odds, but here it seems just the opposite.... I audition for everything my agent sends me, as long as I feel I am right for it. It is difficult to adjust my way of thinking. Any other tips anyone would be willing to reveal would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jamie

Jamie, you're in Atlanta? So am I, along with a few others you'll find hanging out on this forum.

I'm truly not being facetious here, but honestly? Much of what V123 does IS contrary to logic.

I assume you're talking about YOUR personal stats when you say 'ratings' and not those that the voice seekers give you. Mine say I've auditioned something like 746% more than average (I mean it), but this is WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING! Of COURSE I'm going to submit auditions.

The so-called 'Smartcast' system was put into place by V123 last July in an attempt to quell a lot of complaints about the fact that prior to that, EVERYONE who was a premium member received EVERY audition call (much like voices-dot-com) and it seemed that a lot of people were unable to submit, or were ending up being, like, #421 in the queue once they did submit. The THEORY is that Smartcast will take your data and over time refine the leads that are sent to you so they best meet YOUR criteria in terms of budget, style, etc. I'm not sure how well it's working, but in my mind it is an improvement over what we had. Now we know how many auditions the client is seeking and whether ours was ever listened to and, occasionally, what the client rated us.

I seldom look at my own stats. I will audition for whatever I feel is a good fit for me, and whatever has a budget that works for me. I don't care about the endless orange and yellow 'CAUTION!!!' and 'WARNING!!!' and 'DANGER!!!!' placards that the folks at V123 seem to incessantly throw into the faces of us, the PAYING customers.

Which brings us to the final piece that is so terribly skewed backwards on this system. The people that PAY the salaries of the V123 staff, that PAY for this site to function, are the ones constantly warned, penalized, threatened and condescended-to. WE are the ones the non-paying members (voice seekers) can bomb with a poor rating or have waste our time by never opening an audition we took the time to record and submit.

There's a lot of room for improvement. But you'll find that on ANY of the online v/o sites. I personally have my other favorite, where the leads are a lot fewer, but my 'hit ratio' is WAY higher, but I'm keeping it secret. Don't want too many folks knowing about it!

Wink
