I'll take a shot at this...but first my disclaimer: I am not a character guru.

Okay, I want to say you have talent. There is no doubt. As amazing as your Simpson stuff is...unfortunatley, they will be the most useless characters you have commercially. For use in stand up...maybe. I wouldn't even want to guess how much the fees would be to use the Simpsons characters commercially. So much so, any potential client would just go out and hire the real VO's.

You need to work on audio quality....which you are not too far off. Then piece together all your best stuff with a sound bed in the background. Maybe even develop a funny story line. Cruise thru the other character VO's on voice123.com. You will see the best ones have character demos that have a nice flow to them. Joe J. Thomas is one of the best character dudes here....have a listen.

Wow, you've got some range there! I'm new to this whole voice thing and forum but I'm impressed with your demos. I can't comment about sound quality--I'm running off of some cheapo computer speakers here. But I'd say lead off with the compilation demo (the one with all the voices) and follow it up with one of your serious ones (the Battle for Survival one)...that was good. I've seen some comments before that maybe too many demos may not be too good...I'd say tease them with the best.

Good luck,
Cameron

Welcome Rick,

Victor, thanks much for the kind words niedermayr anbeten
(I'll have that case with unmarked bills delivered next week!)

Rick, Victor and Cameron have some good points.

It's obvious that you love voices and cartoons, and that you've got some skills shaping your instrument to impersonate them. I can't think of a better start to a job than love+ability (in fact I've got most of the WB cartoons memorized...)

Next step - direction. If you can find a good voice-over coach in your area, they'll be able to guide you to the best, and most marketable, aspects of your skill set. And help you find classes, and craft a demo.

As an example, my character demo was produced by Blupka (Susan Blu's shop), and they were invaluable in it's creation. Their guidance was key to the final product. They have the added advantage that they also cast VO for commercial and animation, so are intimately familiar with the industry.

BTW, your Marge Simpson is fantastic! If you can mimic that wide of a range, you'll be able to start creating your own characters. Have them read copy from movies, or magazine ads - anything to flesh out exactly who they are. Then you'll have your own cache of characters you can pull out when needed.

Well, I'm starting to ramble and drool on myself, so that's all for now.

It's a helpful bunch here, so ask away - someone will be able to help out with most any question.

Cheers,
Joe J Thomas

P.S. Keep up the singing - it's a great way to keep your chords in tip-top shape!

Guys, thanks very much for the critiques and suggestions. I've done lot's of characterizations for different clients, narrated audiobooks, done movie trailer style voices for DJs and short films. But, most of my work has been radio spots with a Casey Kasem or Bob Eubanks style voice. For some reason, that seems to go over really well. I'm having fun with it and have even used my kids for some projects. They get a kick out of it and they work cheap! Anyway, my best to all of you, and thanks again.
Rick
