I am posting in this forum, because this is entirely an issue for professionals-
I think I am going to miss VOSavvy very, very much.

When I first stumbled onto this board, a couple of years after I had inaugurated my V123 membership, I was STUNNED at the plethora of great talents, the generosity of spirit and the wonderful exchange of professional advice, information and support.
Alas - many, many of those folks are gone now and there are only a few of the diehards that I enjoy reading (or, from whose missives I benefit)-

Given that Colin wrote this morning that the membership criteria for Savvy has now gone beyond anyone with a V123 account - (even the free ones) - but into the realm of anybody with an internet connection-

I've got to say I believe I may be spending more of the little time I've got on another forum more clearly dedicated to the pros in the industry-

Kinda sad-
I really grew to love Savvy over the time I've been here -
But -
Spam aside-

I think I prefer both the candor and the discretion of another forum with stricter guidelines that provide for a leaner VO professional's experience-

NOT TO WORRY -
I will post an update on the NY Spring VO Rendezvous here-

George Harrison wrote -

V123 has been trolling the bottomfeeder arena for a while now - and it seems that Savvy, perhaps, has now followed suit-

It just ain't the same as it was...

Fondly-
PG

Funny, Peter. It reminds me of the onslaught of urban blight and all the residents flee to the suburbs or some such thing. I'll stick around for a while and see how it all plays out, but not nearly as much as before.

Time passes, yes, and things change. By the way, did you ever get the book AGAINST THE MACHINE I recommended a while back? It's excellent -- a must read for anyone, but especially those who depend heavily on the internet for their work.

See you in other places, then!

Diane -
No-

I haven't yet added that book to my reading stack - but, I will soon - I remember your recommendation distinctly-
AND-

I won't be gone completely (not that I was ever such a huge presence to begin with...)

I just think Savvy has changed so darn much - so much less "pro" -which isn't as elitist a comment as it may appear-

Looking forward to seeing you at the NY Spring Rendezvous!
(I've got to find that thread and post a couple of suggested dates...)

PG

Diane - which "Against The Machine" book are you recommending? I saw two on Amazon - one by Nicols Fox and one by Leigh Seigel. Both look good.....

Lisa --
It's Lee Siegel's book -- it's a cultural analysis of the internet's influence on the way we live, shop, work and play in the modern world.

Erik is working hard on the spam problem as we speak. Please check back in from time to time.

Colin -

Thanks for the reply -

My post may have been a bit hasty - it has nothing to do with the fine work that you and Erik do monitoring the board, believe me-

Just the continuing disenchantment with the V123 environment, that's all-

Kudos to the both of you for handling a menacing headache this week -

Best-
PG

I believe I have at least 8 posts here about how I'm never going to post anymore on Savvy.

I'm pretty much due for another one any day now. Or it may be that I've finally found the right balance of meds.

Don't worry about it. It's just a passing fad.

JS: You know I absolutely adore you buddy, but you dropped the ball on this one. Where's my ever present patented JS Gilbert wise-ass come-back? You don't remember Madge? For shame!!!

Dina! Thanks for the high praise indeed, but with with the profusion of quotable quotes here on this board (Jadaisms, e. g.) I cannot begin to accept that most hyperbolic compliment!

As for J.S. not responding, you should not fault him for that. He is much too erudite a man to parry that one. Now, if I had alluded to Kierkegaard, for instance, with say the quote: "I begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself so great a bore as to contradict me in this,"-- (mind you, I don't know if this is what Kierkegaard really said since I don't understand Danish and I always have a healthy skepticism of translations) --- he would have been right back at me.

Well, I suppose in the tradition of many of the great "straight men", I set it up for the punch line and I stepped back. I guess I was surprised there were only 2 retorts, although the reference to Madge might have shut down a few more pedestrian responses.

As for Kierkegaard, although I'm not big on the existentialists (don't seem so shocked) one can say a lot for the concept of living in the either the "aesthetic" or the "ethical. Also, 2 of my favorite authors, Franz Kafka (Metamorphisis, The Trial) and Jerzy Kosinski (The Painted Bird, Being There) as well as having been a major influence on Jean Paul Sartre.

Like some actors, I think I tend to be a Gestaltist and in voice acting, which is largely theater of the mind, this seems to play well. I would also say Freud has played a role in the development of my neurosis, although I believe I have finally come to grips with the concept that "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Sorry to disappoint here, I thought I was following the script.

Also, anyone interested in Kirkegaard, might also find the works of Gurdjieff/Ouspensky rather interesting as well.
