I'm finishing up my new promo demo and need to finalize the order of the spots so that the engineer can master it. If you have any feedback, now is the time!

Okay, Amy, you asked for it, and I hate to be the one who has to tell you this, but geeeeze! Who ever told you you should be in the voiceover business??!!! You need to go back to your day job waiting tables at Bill's quickie lube change and pizzaria!!!!

(Maybe that'll give the rest of us poor hacks a chance...) Confused

Okay, seriously?
Besides the fact that you're what the v/o business is all about and a virtual v/o goddess, I'll try - as objectively as I can - to assess the DEMO, which is, after all, what you asked us to do.

I can't critique your delivery, because it's perfect IMHO. I'm torn between whether you really need all of the sound bytes of the actual shows in there or not. It adds to the validity of your spots, and to the professionalism, but it also takes precious time away from showcasing YOU! I think overall for a demo reel the length is good; I wouldn't want it to be any longer. I like the pacing and placement of your spots. I'd personally love to hear one more 'down' piece in the same vein as the Olivia Newton John spot somewhere closer to the front to provide a break in the action.

But honestly, you could send it out just as it is and I think anyone who has a lick of sense will know you're a pro.

Now, I want all the newbies and wanna-be's to be required to listen to your demo to see what they need to strive for if they seriously are thinking about succeeding in the v/o business.

You rock. And I'll take a medium meat-lovers with my oil change.

Amy,

I agree with everyone before me. That's a great demo and it does an excellent job of selling your skills. Technically there are a couple of explosive consonants in the beginning of the heroes bit but the producer should have caught those Smile

As Scott was alluding to I as well wonder if you need the show bits. This should show off Amy and only Amy. I think the credibility is in your delivery and the client's names. I would be inclined to take out the extraneous bits.

The pacing works for me so I don't think I'd change the order. It is a great demo, Amy.

Amy:
Do I need tickets to join the fan line gathering to the left....
No wonder you're currently ruling the roost; that's as smooth a display as Nureyev. (Ask your parents.)
But - as we country folk say - since gloss don't paint the barn, I'll nit-pick a tad and volunteer that I didn't think the "coming up next..he paints the barn" snippet for Heroes was strong enough to be up front. For me, it was a tad down-stepping from the roaring intro. I'd either ditch it, or move it further back.
You do happy and sweetly-bubbly better than cheap champagne. I'd stick with those and leave a lasting "ZOWEE" impression with the listener.
And I AM starting to wonder how much competition you lucky ladies have. Obviously, they're cowed; but we sure don't hear much from any others than the Duelling Divas' Duo.
That ripped, though, girl.
Proud of you.
Voice On!
Menschily Yours,

Dang Amy,
I keep listening to demos here (your suggestion), to see what kind of demo I want to do. I thought I was getting it and now after hearing yours, I know I have a lot more to learn. I think I have a voice, but I don't know how to use it.

Still working...thank you for sharing yours it helps sclepps like me by giving us something to shoot for.

Did you produce that yourself?

Thanks guys for your kind words and helpful feedback! (I love the phrase "gloss don't paint the barn"-- I am so stealing that!)

We're going to fine-tune it tomorrow before mastering.

No, I didn't produce it. Those are skills I do not possess. Joyce Castellanos here in L.A. handled it all for me. She's pretty much the main promo demo go-to girl in town. (There's another, but as far as I can tell, she won't return your call unless you're a celebrity.)

I was just too close to the project to be able to effectively evaluate it. It's so nice to have the likes of you for advice and support (and flattery!)

Embarassed

Amy, I've been out of the biz too long to give any advice on your demo, but it sounded fine to me. I like it a lot better than the other one.

Robert, I too wonder where the other gals were who were posting last month have gone off to.
