OH MAN Dave......was that a movie or was that a movie??!!??! If one could wear out a CD I could definitely wear that one out! I actually have the promo 45 on Playtone! not to mention a bunch of the promo stuff - - As a musician and a fan of 60s music I am amaze at the job they did, especially in faithfully capturing the studio sounds of the day across the various tracks (My World Is Over with a huge Bacharach influence right into Drive Faster, cut in a little 15x20 studio no doubt) - - sometimes I have to pinch myself and remind myself that Bill Cobbs is NOT Del Paxton (they even got the late 50s - early-60s Capitol label right with the logo on the left side!!!!!)
That's it, I can't stop now, someone stop me.....I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ Chris Mezzolesta www.voiceguy1.com SaVoa #07010

Did you happen to catch how Tom Hanks slipped "All My Only Dreams" into My Big Fat Greek Wedding too? _________________ Dave DeAndrea

I'm a music addict, so listing "faves" might be fun for me, but not fun to read. I'm willing to try anything new; however, the older I get, the less tolerant I am of music I don't care much for.
But there are only two styles of music I cannot listen to for longer than 30 seconds: acid rock/death metal, and hardcore rap. Most anything else I'll at least give a shot. Some recordings of repetitive jazz stuff will start to annoy me after awhile, but I will watch pros perform live for hours.
I also agree with Diane on this subject when she said, "This is an impossible question for me to answer. Music for me is a reflection of the time, the mood I'm in, or the mood I want to be in, the place -- and the place I am in my life."
And with my music addiction, my tastes are quite broad and eclectic. Here's a sampling of artists that have been in my player in the last month:
Tennessee Ernie Ford
Alison Krauss & Union Station
Frank Sinatra collection
Weird Al Yankovic: Running With Scissors
PFR: The Late Great PFR
The Nightmare Before Christmas (Movie Soundtrack)
Wayburn Dean: As Long As I Live
Steven Curtis Chapman: All Things New
Acappella: Rescue
Nickel Creek
Billy Joel: An Innocent Man
Enya: A Day Without Rain
Monty Python: The Album Of The Soundtrack Of The Trailer Of The Film Of Monty Python And The Holy Grail
As for favorite acts...
I was a fan of the Christian all-vocal group Acappella as far back as the late 80's, and it was my dream to tour with them and sing with them in concert. I saw my dream come true in 2001 when I started my first of three US tours with them as their road manager. And my third tour with them, they asked me and the road crew to do background vocals for them during concert.
I've seen Steven Curtis Chapman in concert a couple times, and he does one of the most well-rounded and entertaining Christian concerts I've ever attended. He even performed a lesser-known song "When Love Takes You In" that my wife and I had sung at our wedding--we cried and hugged through the whole number.
I've seen Weird Al Yankovic in concert three times, and he's one heckuva entertainer. His show gets more amusing every time I see it.
I took my wife for her birthday to see Alison Krauss and Union Station with the "Down From The Mountain Tour" at Atlanta's Fox Theater a few years ago. With the exception of a couple forgettable performances from some of the other artists involved, it was a fantastic show. I hope I can still hold an audience with my voice when I'm in my 80's like bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley did that night.
Nickel Creek was another amazing concert experience. And afterwards, they did an impromptu jam session for another 90 minutes in front of their tour bus. That's a sure sign of a true performer: someone who performs purely for the love of music, and for the people who love the music.
But I'd have to say that the best concert experience I ever had was when my wife and I went to see Blue Man Group at the Gwinnett Arena last year. That concert was frikken amazing, extraordinary, phenomenal, sensational, spectacular, and a bunch of other superlatives used to describe pure awesomeness. Those guys rock like no other group wearing blue latex paint has ever rocked before. _________________ Founder/Host: The voice actor Appreciation Group

Craig,
Some great picks there!
PFR is definitely one of my all time faves... Joel has such a clean, awesome voice! I was so bummed when the broke up.
Steven Curtis Chapman... I don't know if there's a better song writer anywhere... and he's such a wonderful adoption advocate.
Acappella.... Love the "Set Me Free" cd. Doesn't get much better than "Not My Will But Thine". _________________ Dave DeAndrea

I felt the same way, although "bummed" was a mild way to describe the feeling for me.
I got a lot of friends hooked on them too. To this day, I still recommend them as "what The Beatles would've sounded like if they'd been a 'Christian' band', and I've created many fans in the process.
Have you heard their 2004 "reunion"/"remix" album The Bookhouse Recordings? It was a Fam Christian exclusive, and I never pay full price for CDs so I waited over a year to get a copy. I couldn't find one pre-owned, and wanted to hear it so badly I finally gave in and bought it.
Had mixed feelings on the first listen, but it grew on me later.

I've met him on a couple occasions too. The first time was actually on my birthday, at a Cracker Barrell outside of Memphis, TN.
He came walking in accompanied by a little league baseball team, and they sat him at the table right next to me and my family. I kept telling my younger brother it was SCC, and he said, "No way--that guy is really short."
Curiosity finally got the best of me and I walked over and said, "I honestly don't mean to interrupt your dinner, and I'm sure you hear this all the time, but are you Steven Curtis Chapman?"
He broke into a wide smile and extended his hand, "I sure am!"
He turned out to be the nicest guy ever--so humble and friendly, and immediately likable.
He took the time to come over and meet my family, who are highly conservative in their music tastes and had no idea who he was.
My dad asked him, "So you're some kind of singer?"
He chucked and said, "Yeah, I sing a little."
And then my idiot brother asked him to sing happy birthday to me, and he said any other time he'd have been honored to, but he was on doctor's orders for voice rest. (His bout with vocal nodes took him off the road for a while at the time.)
I also had to ask him why in the wide world he was at a Cracker Barrell in Southaven, MS, of all places. He was staying at a hotel nearby because his sons were in a local little league tournament.
So odd, sometimes, the circumstances that God will bring about to make someone's unspoken birthday wish come true. I'd been wanting to meet Steve in person for half my life at that time.
I met him again almost a decade later at an autograph signing he did in the Atlanta area, and he actually remembered me. Of all the hundreds upon thousands of people he meets for just a moment in his travels, he actually remembered meeting me.
Like I needed another reason to be persuaded that he's one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met.

Wow. I had no idea anyone here would actually recognize the group's name, and even less chance that they would also be familiar with their music.
Set Me Free is my all-time favorite Acappella album, followed closely by Sweet Fellowship.
I've had a fascination with the human voice since I was very young, and I got hooked on Acappella after only a few seconds listening to them. They became an immediate favorite, and I have every album their company has recorded in their entire 25+ year history.
I still co-moderate their official Yahoo Group too, and I'm something of the official-unofficial company archivist. If you're interested, Dave, PM me and I'll send you an invite. _________________ Founder/Host: The voice actor Appreciation Group

I think most of you guys know I've worked in and out of Contemporary Christian radio for a while now. I met Michael W. Smith - one of the few CC artists I really like - at a huge concert some years ago here in Atlanta and he was as nice as could be. At the time one of his backup singers, who I also met, was a DELIGHTFUL young woman named Nicole C. Mullen, who of course has gone on to a very successful solo career. I also got to co-emcee a Newsboys concert, another group I like a lot, and their show was not only LOUD, but pretty amazing.
On an aside, I also once emcee'd a Tommy James and the Shondells concert in the late '90's. As a kid I'd had an old Crimson and Clover songbook (I play guitar) and I STILL had it. I brought it with me and he was more than happy to autograph it for me. Nice guy, but SUPER SHORT show (about 45 minutes, plus a very brief encore) that left the audience pretty p.o.'d. _________________ Scott R. Pollak Warm. Real. Natural. www.voicebyscott.com

Craig,
I don't want to hog this thread, but...well, here I go. No, I haven't heard that PFR project (but I'd love to... pm me and hook me up with info). I was disappointed with the "Disappear" attempt, although I enjoy Joel's solo cds (and wish EAGER would have done more). Did you ever hear Joel's brother's band, Believable Picnic? Pretty sweet!
Hosted PFR in concert a couple of times... great guys.
Hosted Acapella concerts a couple of times (some of the members changed) but, again, great guys.
Saw SC2 and did the meet & greet... brief, but great guy.
I gotta tell ya... I checked out your V123 site (and the Youtube link) and was blown away with your Casey At The Bat... amazing.
Hope you don't mind, but I thought others would enjoy it as well:
