Haven't actually booked new client work here since SC (don't think so, anyway) so I'm posting my SC inaugural booking. (what? nearly a year later? sad, eh?)
However what I'm stoked about is that this is actually a publishing/production arm of a church denomination headquartered in my market; I've sent them reels for years trying to get my voice in the door. Finally got in.
Here's the rough audition: an indigenous woman from an Andean village.

Melba!!!
That was absolutely amazing -- you are one gifted woman. A nuanced, totally credible character. Once in a blue moon the right job with the right seeker will align with the right actor here at V123. Glad it all lined up for you. And the lion will lie down with the lamb.
A warm congrats,

What delightful irony, Melba...that a local production house foregoes your clear and lovely North American reads, and then hires you to be somebody you're not.
But my oh my, did you ever deliver a performance there.
Major kudos on a brave and wonderful interpretation!
Villazon!

Aww, shucks. Thanks for your kind words. It was one of those auditions that I thought, "they're either gonna think it rocks, or think it sucks". I actually like those. They interest me. I love irony, too. But ironing, not so much.
I have to correct my initial post a bit -- I just realized I wasn't even premium for 6 months after SC's inception -- so I can't actually lay the blame there. It just was so convenient and comforting to do so.

Congratulations, Melba-
That was a marvelous read...I think I know that woman!
You seem pleased - as you should be.
Best-
Peter

Everybody Loves Raymond in an Andean village:
"No, Raaayyy! You cannot raise alpacas!"
"But it'll be great!"
"My boy can raise alpacas if he wants."
"Ma. You never let me have a pet. You always let Ray have pets. But not me."
"Holy crap! Look what that thing just did on my foot!"
(I even hijack my own threads. geesh)

Melba, you are so absolutely amazing. What a moving and real and incredible true person you are in this read.
I know I've told you that I love your talent as an artist, but this one is off the scale amazing.

You precious little sugarplums. Don't swell my old head up, though. Won't fit in the studio then.
(thanks all for the encouragement, though...a wink and nod are sweetness and strength)

I love the script - is indiginous in the 3rd grade vocabulary! You convinced me that it was. Those Bolivians pack a lot of learning in three years!

Yes, Connie!...I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the audition script. It's a fun challenge to hold your hand out to the listener and say "here, step off the edge and let's suspend ourselves while I tell you a story..."
