Newbie Got Gear! . . . lol

I have done a lot of research and have built my home studio (of sorts). I am listing my equipment to get some critiquing. I am still working on getting an actual separate room to do the recording in, so as of now I am doing all the recording in the living room. Please remember I was working on a budget and completely built the computer myself and got all of the equipment. With that said here it goes:

Computer:

(1) internal 500 gb hhd
(1) external 500 gb hhd
Intel core 2 duo 6750 processor
ATI 1950 hd deluxe Video card
4 gb xms ram

Software:

Adobe Audition 3

Hardware:

M-Audio Mobilepre usb
StudioProjects B1 Broadcasting microphone
5.1 Surround Sound Logitech monitor
6" pop filter

Okay, fire away, I tried to do my research but I know I am new at this.

wow, okay, I was hoping for some thoughts on the equipment I got. The recording was done without editing so it is how it sounds when recorded.

Well Clinton, I won't get into the "do you know what to do with all of this stuff?" approach, nor comment on the sample recording you chose to send.

As for thoughts on the equipment

1. Personally I think it's a bad move to monitor audio from a suround sound system. I think that most everyone spends way too little money on speakers and that a really nice pair of reference speakers (uncolored is an absolute must)

2. Just be aware that as you approach your craft, you are becoming a juggler. 1 ball in the air is you as a voice actor; another ball is you as the engineer; another is you as the director and one more as marketing director. Perhaps also as collections agent. My general experince is that this is a lot to take in and try to become accomplished at. It's also something that most people shortcut.

You will not have the benefit as I did coming into this industry to travel around and have clients direct your auditions or work with a booth operator at the agent's office. I have long contended that having an extra set or two of good ears helps immeasurably.

No doubt, you will start submitting your demos and auditions here for the gang to critique. Remember that they are not casting directors or commercial producers (with the exception of a few). The tendencey is for everyone to be encouraging and full of love and inspiration.

That's all good and well, but the secret is that most people don't make much money ever at voiceover, so do whatever you can to give yourself a leg up and realize that Voice123 or voices-com is the very tip of the iceberg of voice acting.

Make getting an agent be a goal for you.

Perhaps some of this doesn't apply to you, but I am typing it all out in hopes that someone else may gain benefit from this post.
