OK, a new concept here. I am going to post a famous voice over from "back in the day." I challenge all of you to give it your best shot to imitate it. Yes, it is from a MALE "announcer" but don't let that stop you if you are female. It is DRAMATIC! I will wait a day or two to post my "imitation" since I have had a drink or two and my jaws are lazy. I tried already tonight but I can't quite get it. This (and this read) are not easy. Good practice! Compare yourself to the original! It's hard isn't it?

Could you post the script? That would be great if possible. I'd like to take a crack at it. What a GREAT idea! (This must be the clip you mentioned about Orson Wells that I couldn't find.)

Here it is...
---------
We know now that in the early years of the twentieth century this world was being watched closely by intelligences greater than man's, and yet as mortal as his own. We know now that as human beings busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinized and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinize the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.
With infinite complacence people went to and fro over the earth about their little affairs, serene in the assurance of their dominion over this small, spinning fragment of solar driftwood which, by chance or design, man has inherited out of the dark mystery of Time and Space.
Yet across an immense ethereal gulf, minds that are to our minds as ours are to the beasts in the jungle, intellects vast, cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.
In the thirty-ninth year of the twentieth century came the great disillusionment. It was near the end of October. Business was better. The war scare was over. More men were back at work. Sales were picking up. On this particular evening, October 30th, the Crosley service estimated that thirty-two million people were listening in on radios.

Nice job! I will get one recorded at some point. I am extremely busy right now. (Not really too much of it is voice work though.)

With all due respect Randall... I don't think you are grasping the "drama" of the read. I know, I know... "where is Colin's read?" Well, I am having trouble with "intellegences." Those G and C combinations are tough for me. It's funny... but if you've listened to the Welles out-takes on another thread he says... "crumb crisp coating... ewe... that's tough." I WILL post mine but only when I feel it is not embarassing to me. I guess I am too much a perfectionist.

Joe... WOW! That was pretty good. I esspecially liked the "old record" SFX touch. The EQ was a good attempt but needed more "notch" filtering. Very impressive!

thanks for listening and commenting on my take. i was concentrating more on getting the voice down and not putting as much effort on the drama part. i actually never tried doing my take on someone else where i put more effort into the performance then the voice...maybe i'll give that a try!

The key as I see it are two things... the pauses and the emphasis. Talent seekers are supposed to want you to "make the copy come to life." It is un-natural for us to use "dramatic pauses" since we are trained to "fit it in" a certain time frame. I am trying to branch out from the typical "car dealer" read and learn how to do drama.

Scott, I suppose you know you posted the original. A joke maybe? Here's my hack at it.
