There are three more of them at L and R, Scott; including a couple of more 1's.

Scott -- I did indeed suck, according to the seeker. I feel better about my "1" because I see I'm in good company. Mine is posted at L&R.
My theory on this is that the seeker may not have been able to adequately articulate what he is actually looking for and, as a result, we were unable to read his mind and give him what he had envisioned. Either that or we really did just suck.

Scott, I’m so sorry that you had to experience a negative rating. We all know you are such an incredible talent and that rating really means nothing. Try not to take it personally.
I can't describe the peace I felt, (quite a while ago), when I decided that the "ratings" are not something I need to be concerned with. None of my "ratings" have had anything to do with the overall jobs I've booked. Ever.
(And I'm putting "ratings" in quotes purposefully. Because they are of course not a "real rating," they are a random, arbitrary number assigned to an audition, based upon totally unknown criterion by the voice-seeker, so have no real bearing on the quality of the audition submitted.)
Since I decided to just stop even looking at, contemplating, or worrying about "ratings," life has been a lot less complicated.
Try not looking at your ratings for a month or two, and experience the peace....If you look back through the posts since “ratings” were implemented, they've caused so much angst. Let them go. They don't matter.
Max

Scott,
My condolences on that aweful "ONE STAR." Maxine gave you beautiful advice. If you don't mind, I'm going to steal Max's advice for my own self esteem too.
*Makes mental note: Avoid the ratings like the plague*

Funny thing is Scott already gave himself that advice a while back. Sooner or later, we all get one, no matter who we are.
Ahhh, but you never forget your first one, do you?

Thanks everyone... and don't worry, I'm NOT worrying about this! I posted it more out of bemusement than anything else. Now if the average rating had been something like 4.8 and I'd gotten 1 star it might have made me scratch my head and wonder, but when the average rating is in the mid one's, it tells me the seeker hasn't heard anything close to what he really was hearing in his own head.
I truly do NOT worry about the ratings; honestly I don't. Do I check and see how many of my auditions have been opened, rated or not? From time to time, yes, although I'm trying awfully hard to break myself of that habit (the old "submit it and forget it" tactic). I will say that when one of my auditions receives a 5 and the average is, oh, say 1.8, then I do feel better about the odds of landing that one, although we ALL know by now that a high rating, or no rating, is no guarantee of anything. About the ONLY guarantee is a LOW rating, such as this one. I can feel pretty comfortable that this is one job I won't get.
And I'm comfortable with that!
I'd love to hear what they end up using so we'd all know why we missed the mark.

Here was the lead:
" I have (4) 60 second scripts that I am casting one voice for. I am looking for a Roddy McDowell, John Cleese, Geico Lizzard style, interesting character voice to carry these spots. "
Here's my sucker....
Feel free to submit your own if you also sucked!

Hey Scott,
So, I submit a (to my ears) not too shabby Cleese Gecko type character, only to be brought to my knees by the ultimate Dis...the dreaded 1.
This 1, BTW, is the only rating I've gotten out of the past 15 auditions.(Although I did get 1 gig from a no rating)
As far as I am concerned...ratings shmatings....who needs 'em?!
If ya like me...send me the only rating that counts...one that I can put in the bank!!

Welcome to the fray, Scott.
Last week, I received a 2, and then later received an email from the seeker saying the client changed their mind and wanted a different voice type altogether, but they liked my voice and would keep me in mind for future projects.
Makes you smile, doesn't it?

Save The Puppies!!!
Scott,
As we all know, the rating system doesn't means diddly. I am finishing up a project for a gaming company that I auditioned for on V123 and didnt even get a rating.
I personally love listening to anything you post. I find your voice the style I aspire to achieve one day.
Keep up the great work....and the chin.

They must have gotten one they liked. The average has skyrocketed to 1.8.

It's utter nonsense, because your read was better than mine in that you got into the whole part and carried all of the spot and really sold the idea. Somehow that's only worth a two. Whatever.
This is another case of where the anonymity of the seekers on this site is completely unhelpful, because I would like to be able to avoid this seeker in the future but cannot, while it's easy for them to avoid us.
My renewal date is June 5th I believe...well, it would be a renewal date if I renewed...
