Hi! This forum is a great idea.
I've been signed up for a few days, and sending demos like crazy. So far, just one "maybe," so I thought I'd post a link to my profile and get some tips from the pros!
I've done radio for a long time, but the voice guy thing is new to me. I think I might be trying too hard. Constructive criticism is appreciated.
Thanks!

Wow, you have a great voice. Be patient sometimes clients can take some time to choose and get back to the talent. |

Jerry:
Took you up on your invitation to listen in.
Excellent demos; the kind that make me want to hustle my equipment off on e-bay and take a vow of silence.
As if...
Only suggestion is that you V123 site mentions cartoon voices and such, but there is only a small clip on your main demo. Considering all the computer game and animation postings, mightn't it be an idea to include some specific animation clips, and eventally take more work away from the rest of us? Speaking of sites, isn't your intro offer at your home site a little low-ball?
Good stuff, and good luck,
Robert |

Hi Jerry,
I listened to your demos.. They sound good. I think it's a matter of time before you get some work. however, I think you'll get a lot more work if you can become more conversational and less "radio" sounding.
I know it goes against everything you learned in radio, but a quieter, real, 1/2 voice sound is what they're looking for these days. A communicator, rather than a voice.
Make sure you have some of the "real" believable sound mixed in with the deep voice stuff.
Good Luck!

Hi Robert
Thanks for the tips. Yeah, that intro offer is pretty low-ball. It's coming down in another week. The whole site is getting a revamping soon. I don't think anybody but you has seen it anyway. LOL. |

Hi Julie.
I think you're right. I've done the radio thing for so long, it's tough to break away from that style. Thanks! |

Hey Jerry,
I have a world of admiration and respect for Julie Williams and she seems to always be spot-on with her knowledgeable assessments.
You have amazing resonance and tones in your voice... there's no question you're a pro. But like you, I've had to take that darned radio announcer out of my voice. I still work in radio, producing a handful of spots every single day, and we seldom EVER use that hard-sell anymore. It's pretty much gotten passe'. I liked the direction you began heading into with your character voices and was thinkin' "Man, I'd love to hear this guy in a rocking chair on the front porch doing a Prairie Home Companion kind of presentation to the grandkids!" You'd be amazing at that.
Honestly, don't even try to go for the car dealer spots. Sure you can do it.
Along with 87,000 other radio and former radio guys. Go for coloring your reads into real stories and I will envy you forever.
All the best. |
