Ron,

I've got no problems zinging someone for a poor demo. I'd rather not do so anonymously (so I won't be tagging people), but I find it discourteous to not let them know that the lack of quality is going to cost them work.

Bob Bergen put it best, "you can't afford to have a 'first demo'".

This is what I see as a huge problem within the industry since most sites are simply pay-to-play.

Select VIEW from your browser's menu, then "View Source" or "Source" (depends on browser).

Be prepped to do a lot of reading... the webpages are bloated with useless code.

/apologies for the triple posting... feeling lazy

So true Greg.

Your right. I'm going to just let this go. No use in getting my boxers in a bunch over this. I have many VO retainers right now and I'm not hurting for work. SO! I will not tag anymore! (but I still wanna listen.)

Max, I'm with you. I totally don't get this (and, ha ha, also keeping my knee from jerking). Looking around for more info...

It's what I've been saying all along.

These people have too many meetings, too many "great" ideas ... basically, too much time on their hands. They started out with a decent, simple site, but I think the whole thing started getting too big for them. And the more they mess with it, the worse it gets. And perhaps the worst thing is: they never admit one of their grand ideas was a mistake -- it's always US -- WE have to give things time, WE have to understand...

Now, we have to keep track of "tags"? From our helpful, lovely COMPETITORS??? Oh, they must have had a good, hearty laugh over that one!

Wow, you guys should see the (caustic, argumentative) email I just got back from Steven Lowell. Ouch. Won't be emailing customer service anymore if he's the one that's going to be answering. He could use a lesson in customer service and conflict management. So much for all my compliments about him recently. I'd written him an adamant letter saying I didn't WANT anyone adding tags to my demos, and boy did I get an adamant letter back.

However, we can all rest easy as he assured me that he heard from "a slew of talent" asking if this feature was available. So apparently that's one of the many good reasons to implement it.

Apparently, "hearing from a slew," is tantamount to taking a survey of ALL paying customers.

He also assured me, "No one will know it's you." HHmmmm...I have no interest in tagging anyone else's demos, so why would I care?

Yup, tags from our competitors, or who knows who? Great idea!

This is all such a shame. I really enjoy my relationship with Voice123 and their customer service has always been great. What a shame to get such a response letter from them when I was obviously just shocked and surprised that others' could add things to my demo without my knowledge.

That said, there's nothing I can do about this so I guess I'm done comlaining for now....

Diane ,

I think several months ago the team at V123 got together and said,

"If it's not broken, Let's break it"

That is only way to explain the ridiculous ideas they continue to create. Has someone spiked the watercooler at V123?

Thanks

Why, because they don't want any unfavorable comments posted that would affect their blog? Yeah, thats how we feel about our demos!!! How about giving us the same courtesy for goodness sake?

I can't judge this entirely without all the details but on the surface, this is OFF THE CHARTS disturbing!!!!

Jeers,
Cameron

Maxine... your experience with V123's so-called "customer service" is another reason this site won't be around in another 2-3 years.

Oh, and one more thing.

Even though my profile states otherwise, V123 "Smartcast" continues to think I am:

1. African American
2. Able to do a Brazilian Accent
3. Ideal for english reads with a hint of Greek
4. Able to do a mean Samuel L Jackson, Carlos Mencia, or Katt Williams(???)
5. Able to recruit additonal voices, record them, produce with music and sfx for $100

Please stop anonymously tagging me for the "Snakes on a Plane" gigs.

Come on V123 your sinking. Not only did you see the iceberg, you hit it, then brought it onboard.

Look Rose, I am on top of the world.......woohoo

Let me guarantee you that if someone puts up something libelous and it's pressed hard enough, that indeed it is not nearly as difficult to find someone as one might think. Especially if they're not used to hiding their tracks.

With all of the other technical and security-related mistakes that have been experienced or revealed, I hope that no one takes this comment with anything less than a grain of salt.

That said, I have little doubt that the professionals of this site would never do something in such a manner that would require such an action to even be considered.

Max, that's really a bummer. Steven's always been great when working with my issues.

Just got a reply from Julian Castilio. Here is what he had to say:

Dear Ron,

Actually, there is no reason to be upset. The tags are just for the talents to see how other talents describe your demos. Please keep in mind that you can remove any tags you do not agree with. This is something we are trying to help the talents know how their demos are seen by others.

Are these tags going to show up on our home page?

Will potential clients be able to see these tags?

What if we lose a gig because of this?

Will I have to constantly monitor my home page?

If I want a talent's opinion of my demo, I'll ask them. It's not appropriate for competing talent to jeopardize my ability to make a living by adding tags to my demo that could affect the ability for my profile/demo to show up in searches, etc.

And yes, it seems to me to be just one more thing we talent have to monitor/stay on top of.

Unless I'm just not understanding this? I keep saying that b/c I really can't believe this is how it works. I must be missing something.

Someone needs to tell Julian that we already have something like that here at voiceoversavvy-"CRITIQUE MY DEMO"

I personally do not want unsolicited critiques. I will say it again, I do not want anyone meddling with my profile.

Thank You
