Wow, I think my bifocals are finally working! Tyler definitely has the biggest studio, and dare I say the biggest mic!

Todd, is the gold grill standard or did you pay extra for the bling?

The bling comes standard with the Mogami edition of the mic.

Heres a picture so you can see what I really look like ... I'll put the rest up in separate posts over the course of the weeks to come and after you print them out and paste them together - you'll have a life-size poster!

Todd! You slay me!

Tyler's pictures may be huge, but he was the only one who thought to include a shot of what was on TV.

put it in your passenger seat and you can use the car-pool lane!

btw - Amy & Nikki - I notice you both have your computer directly below your mic. If you can move it away - preferably to another room or closet - you'll decrease your sound floor immensely.

An inexpensive Noise Gate will take out everything in the background (within reason) provided it's set correctly. It's a must unless you want to spend a bunch of money on acoustics.

You're probably right, Todd, but I don't seem to get much line or floor noise; I'm not sure if it's a benefit of the acrylic case or not. (Maybe it's just a well insulated mic - I use a Shure SM7B). Also, I turn the PC fans way down during recording; my CPU is only a gig.54 so there's not a lot of heat requiring turbo cooling. On the few occasions I've had to truncate line noise, Adobe Audition's noise reduction does in fact act like a noise gate (which Sid recommends) and easily removes that.

Honestly, I've been poised to do the padded cell decor on a number of occasions, with my computer well distanced from the mic, and me well isolated from the world, but the place is really amazingly well insulated and quiet, and the mic is pretty forgiving. I'm kind of surprised.

Todd-- Thanks for the advice. It must be an optical illusion, though. My computer is nowhere near any of my mics. It is about 8-9 feet away from the one on my desk, and surrounded by Owens Corning fiberglass insulation. I also have an Auralex baffle directly behind the mic, and the entire wall behind my monitor is acoustically treated.

Huh. Oh well - can't be right every time. It'd be nice to be right once though.
