Oh no....not him. I just love him and remember days that I would wake up and my stomach muscles would be sore....and I'd realize that it was because I'd watched a George Carlin show the night before and had spent an hour and a half laughing as hard as I could....tears streaming down my cheeks from the sheer hilarity of it all.
What a beautiful, visionary man.
At least we know now that the parties in Heaven will be much more raucous than before.....there was just someone that needed him more than we did, so he had to go. We just need to trust that he's making people laugh and bringing joy to those he's with now. He is not gone forever ~ he has just changed venues and those he’s with now are as blessed as we are to have known him.
God bless your George. And I'll aspire to get bigger and bigger houses so I can continue to acquire more room to put all my "stuff."
In sad retrospect, I’d always wanted to write a letter to him to let him know how much laughter he had brought into my life over the years and to thank him for his genius and funniness. I never did write the letter because I figured he’d never read it anyway. That was a mistake. Never put off writing that letter…whomever it’s to. I wish I would have told him how much happiness and fun he’d brought into my life.
Ok, I’m telling you now. Thank you George, and love you George.

Some folks may not know that he narrated many of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories my kid just loves. Of all the narrators of that series, he was the best in my opinion. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com Member SaVoa...#07040...www.SaVoa.org

He will surely be missed. Maxine has it right he was a visionary in the comic industry . . . The radio station I listen to this morning did a tribute to him (I personally never heard any of the ones they played mostly because they were from his Kindergarten days hahaha) But they were all still very funny.
Did not know he did the Thomas. Would love to see his personal version lol Now that would be educational programing. _________________ If the world ever joins together as one voice . . . they need to make sure they are copying mine hahahaha

Yes, Colin -- Thomas the Tank Engine!!! He did such a wonderful job on those. Smart guy, good heart. Lots of warmth in those great stories.
Speaking of "Thomas"-- if you ever get a chance to go to Wales, I took my son there when he was 5, and we rode through the countryside on an antique railway of that era (with lots of "Thomas" memorabilia to buy.) Unforgettable experience for my boy -- he brought his Thomas and Percy along for the ride. We have video of them "looking" out the window. _________________ Diane

I saw him in person once. Not on his best night, but even then he was head and sholders above the rest. Made you laugh, made you think, made you wince with revolt, later in his career he made you wish he wasn't so bitter, but always an incredibly sharp mind and a great entertainer. Although I never really liked his profanity, I understood it was part of the act and accepted it because there was so much more to appreciate under the surface. We still have Cosby and Robert Klein, after those I'm not so sure of who's left. But from Class Clown to battle-weary curmudgoen, there will never be another George Carlin.

I'll have to dub off a bit of Carlin doing the Thomas stuff, it shows a whole different side of him. Making stories come to life for kids with different voices. It also shows that he could be a talented voice artist as well. I did cringe at some of his humor but he was always funny. I remember a bit he did on advertising where one line stuck in my brain forever (since I do so many radio ads...)
"It's homemade goodness in a can."
Oh and Diane... we took our son to simillar Thomas events when he was both 3 and 4 where he got to ride the "real" Thomas.... _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com Member SaVoa...#07040...www.SaVoa.org

Well, Colin, I'm sure your son enjoyed it just as much -- and my son probably didn't appreciate the authenticity of the experience, but Iabsolutely adored it. I loved the stories myself, and wanted to see the place that inspired them!

Thanks for posting that Diane. I wanted those not familliar to hear the "softer side" of Carlin. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com Member SaVoa...#07040...www.SaVoa.org

I saw him in Tulsa a few years ago after he had just got out of rehab, and needless to say, he wasn't the best...but he chided us fr having to hear him read one of his jokes off of a piece of paper, saying, "well at least you all will hear me do it right, so shut the hell up!"
I laughed the whole night and had fun. And when I'm down, I pop in "Jammin' in New York" and my bad mood is gone in a heartbeat.
Ironically enough, the last thing my girlfriend and I watched last night was "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey."
