oh, and snow, lots of it today.

Hello,

Craig Koepke (Kep-key...first e has short sound and last e is long like in house key)here. New to the forums, at least posting on them.

Lots of good advice and encouragement here in cyber-space.

Been out of the loop for 15 years, but time to get back into the swing. Man have things changed!

I'll post my real voice later today on the link of mp3 on the forums. Need to cut a professional demo. Anyone have good advice as to how and where? Most of the voice overs I did were for the University back in the early 90's. Not really in touch with studios today. I have been going into Sound Advice in Chicago for coaching. I know they cut demos but at this time I am not able to give both legs and my right arm for one. In reality though that is what I may be looking at. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kep Very Happy

Hi Craig...welcome to the forum, though I must confess that this post to you is my first. I hail from the land of mullets, dollar stores, and International Harvesters (or is it -tors?). In other words, Indiana.

I took some private coaching from Kate at Sound Advice as well, about 4 years ago. After reading her letter of intent (for producing my demo) with the fee of around $3800 for the commercial ONLY (she'd cut me a deal if I did the commercial and narrative at the same time by charging me $6700) I went with Mindy Verson. I certainly do not begrudge Kate the amount of $$ she commands for her skill and whatnot, but I feel my demo is every bit as good without having to spend that money.

I have a VO friend that just signed with Voices Unlimited after being with Linda Jack for a few years. He and a buddy would do demos for friends, and Linda was very impressed with them. So, it just goes to show you, there are other cost effective options out there. If you feel positive about working with Kate, then the amount she charges will be worth it.

Blessings,

~Sarah

Welcome Craig,

This sponsored site by Voice123 was conceived with the idea of having a place in which to communicate in a more active way, where you can participate in open discussions, submit your inquiries, ask technical questions, suggest new ideas, get critique and feedback on your profile and demos, look for help and help others, find new information related to the industry or just share your mind.

We really want voice over Savvy Forum to be a gathering tool for the voice over community and a great resource for you.
We are hoping to see you around.

You should post this question on the "Newbies" forum; there are a lot of great talents willing to help. Here’s a link: http://voiceoversavvy.com/viewforum.php?f=2

Cheers.

Craig:
You're gonna love it!
Long hours, disassociation from friends and loved ones, maddening postings, months of unanswered auditions, barbs from Todd Ellis, and a bank balance that matches your outdoor thermometer exactly.
It's great!
My advice would be to not be in a hurry to patch together the elusive Great Demo.
Answer some leads, get a gig, work the stuff, and get a feel for yourself and the biz before you drop any coin.
Most of the leads you productively answer here will be Custom ones, and Generics can be answered with an accumulated library of suitable snippets.
And few are really ready for the Great Demo until they're years in.
Advice On!

Certainly a big thank you to all. I really like the forum and this site. The willingness of several to share their candid thoughts about ones performances and encouragement to keep trying.

Robert, you and Amy have given good advice on laying down money for a good demo. Especially when you have ones trying to get you to do so.

Well they have to make a living as well, and maybe they are sincere, but one has to do what one can manage at the moment.

I look forward to conversing with all of you and perhaps sharing thoughts and (gulp) sticking my neck out for some constructive (chop) objectivity.

Take care,

Kep Smile
