Below is my view when in the office. Couldn't stand the grey accoustic tiles so bought a staple gun and some pastel coloured material ...very mellow place to be. More to the point of the thread, the mic is Neumann U87.

I currently use a Rode NT1000. I had an AKG 414 in my studio in Memphis several years ago, and it was always a great mic.

Well...since we're posting pics...here's my "view in the booth". A Lawson L47FET with the very cool dual pop screen from popfilter.com.

Okay then, since we're on this subject, I've been avidly reading this thread as well as some in the Geek thread about mikes and am wondering if it's time for me to move up in the world. Right up front I'll say I'm NOT an electronics geek although I know my way around digital audio editing inside and out. But when it comes to mikes............
I currently use an RE-20 and have gotten a lot of compliments here on how it sounds. Or how I sound. Or both. But reading about the Heil and the Rodes (no way I can afford a Neumann), I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't time to spring for a condenser mike. And if so, which one. Most of you have heard my demos here... I'm open for suggestions. What do you think? BTW, my budget would probably need to keep the price around $500.

Scott, if I were going to upgrade to a condenser mic today and my budget was $500, I'd seriously look at the Rode mics. Very price friendly and, from what I've read, great sounding too! Some of the AT, Studio Projects, MXL and AKG condenser mics can be had for under $500. I started out with an AKG C3000B before moving to the Lawson. I spent quite a bit more on my Lawson but I'm very satisfied with it and wouldn't change a thing. I still have a Sennheiser dynamic mic. I have used it in the past, but never use it anymore. It sits in it's box.

Scott,
For what it's worth, I have used an RE-20 for years and just recently switched to a RODE NT1 A condenser. I like the sound of the RODE but it is extremely sensitive and mic placement is crucial. I had the opportunity to try a Heil PR-32 about a month ago. I would recommend you try a Heil if possible. What I like about it, is even though it's a dynamic microphone it sounds amazingly like some better condensers I have tried, and it has a more fuller sound than the RE-20. They're about $250.
