I use a dbx 286A. Pretty versatile for a really inexpensive box. Would someday like to move up to a PreSonus ADL 600. (just dreaming).

I've gone Presonus with Presonus TUBE Pre rolling into a firebox. It sounds fabulous but I keep having some bootup problems with the Firebox.

I'm using a Neumann TLM 103 so bad sound is difficult to attain.

I also just purchsed (Just for fun) an SM Pro Audio MC04 Studio Ribbon/Velocity mic. That requires lots of Pre-Amp fiddling. As I experiment more with it, I'm starting to get the sound purists rave about with ribbon Mics.

I used an RCA 77 Ribbon mic in my early days of Radio. That was the greatest mic of all time!

John, I'm curious about the dBx 286a, I almost bought one to save some money over the Symetrix ($200 vs. $500) but in the end I splurged on what I knew instead of the unknown. Any specific comments on the dBx? Does it do a good job? Particularly curious about the noise gate (downward expander.) That is my favorite part of the Symetrix because with no money for a booth, I need it badly and its the only one I ever heard that you really don't hear "working."

I've been using a dbx 286a since 1998 and I love it. I also work in studios that use the Symetrix 528 and the 628. I don't particularly care for those, though. Give me my dbx any day. JMHO Cool

Interesting... maybe I should have saved the money. Of course you have to really know what you are doing setting up one of these boxes and even then it's difficult. Well.. the Symetrix is what I have and I'm happy with it but I'd love to feed it with a tube pre someday.

I use a Presonus Inspire 1394. It's very simple to use and I haven't had any problems with it since I got in June...

The M-box incorporates FocusRite preamps, but since you created a category for the M-box, that's how I've answered. I must say, I'm VERY happy with the overall results that the M-box gives me.

I'm a Symetrix 528 user as well; it's really old but serves my purpose.

They still make the Symetrix 528e because they sell so many to broadcasters. Mine was built last Februrary just a few weeks before it arrived on my doorstep. Exciting to me but I tend to be a bit old school. I'm sorry, but it does sound good, at last to me. It's built like a tank. The full manual (available online) is a primer on voice processing.

After dumping the 24 trk. cast iron board, I got a little Berringer mixer and the Sennhieser mics don't need power. It's analog stuff 'cause I don't travel much. Heck, I even have the old 2 trk, 4 trk reel to reel and digital back up tape decks sitting here to keep me company! Embarassed

Hi.
I have a FOCUSRITE ISA 220 and I use that for all recordings.
I think it's really great.
