Chuck, I really don't understand how you sent phantom power out to the Lynx. That should never happen. I can't see how any piece of equipment would send the 48 volts to the output. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

| The phantom was going through the Lynx-1 lines marked Right and Left out. They were plugged into XLRs on the Mackie board tracks 3 and 4 to monitor. I could have did an impedance conversion, and went TRS instead, but I didnt do that, and I got burnt, literally. Problem solved by using the Gold Channel. |

Well, this is Geek Place so here I go.... you had the output of the Lynx hooked to inputs on the Mackie that had phantom power? Aren't there any inputs on there that are strictly line level and with no phantom power? I send the output of the Lynx to a tiny little Behringer strictly as a headphone mix. Also, what is this "Gold Channel" you keep mentioning? _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

I use the Avalon VT 737sp as well as the Symetrix 528e depending on the app and mic...I love my senn mkh 416 p48 mic with the Avalon and my neumann m147 with the symetrix....but I do have to say everything sounds great through the avalon.....as vo artists and producers we will forever play with the equipment and knobs......my wife is used to hearing..."all I need is just one more piece of gear for the collection".....lol......happy voicing y'all!

Skid (if that is indeed your name...LOL) I bought a PreSonus TubePre this weekend and I'm still playin' with the knobs, feeding into line level on my 528e but so far, I gotta tell ya', I think the preamp built into the Symetrix sounds at least as good if not better. Now, I'm told I need to replace the cheapy tube in the PreSonus with a better 12ax7. Goolge research says I need a "TungSol" 12ax7. Only about $15 so I guess I'll give that a shot soon. _________________ www.ColinCampbellVoice.com

Hi Colin,
My Parents were cruel!! ..No, Just kiddin' ....Phil is my name...I'm not big on my "name recognition" on V123...funny nickname I got when doing the radio back in the day....I like being the wizard of oz so to speak...often heard, never seen....lol.....
Not a bad idea to change out the tube. One of my local studio buddies I do vo for TV with on the outdoor channel is real gear head. He's dying to change the stock tubes in my Avalon with some vintage stuff he can get.....I'm going to let him when I have enough time to part with it for a couple days. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to screw with tubes....but if you can, I'm sure you will hear a nice change in tone. |

I also like the preamps in the Mackie boards. I used the 1202 and 1402 preamps for years.
Colin, yes the Mackie does have non-powered inputs. I now have the XLRs connected via step transformers to the same lines, just on a balanced TRS now. Of course, when I fried my Lynx this is not how it was connected. The mackie board is all or nothing for the phantom power, and I just left it on one day and BRRZPT.....
Thje Gold Channel is a wild preamp/processor/EQ made by t.c. electronic. A bit expensive for what it is, but it has loads of presets, AES digital outputs and sounds great as long as you use its analog outputs only for monitoring. It was one of the first preamp combos with 24 bit internal processing and digital outs, that's why I got it. Here is the link

I use a dbx 286A and have had no issues with it.
