Hi all,
I'm new and maybe this has been covered before( so then just point me to the right thread please), but please help:
I have a hiss. I am using AA 1.5 w/a Xenyx 802 mixer/mic preamp, a Behringer B-1 mic on Phantom power as well as an Ultrafex EX3200 enhancer & an Autocom MDX1600 Processor. That having been said I am 95% sure the source of the hiss is my computer. I can actually feel a vibration in the tower that seems to be in sync with the sound wave & when I turn the "line in" volume off in windows, it stops. I am open to suggestions(short of hammer+computer= solution) and if asked can provide additional specs. Thanks in advance.

Are you running the mic on phantom power from the mixer? If so, I'd eliminate the enhancer and the processor from the chain and see what that give you.
Are you plugging into a soundcard? If so, what kind - integrated, or PCI card? I've seen/heard soundcards integrated on the motherboard that sound horrible. |

| An external sound card, maybe with a little extra oomph from an additional preamp, could solve that for you. |

Thanks all
As of right now, the sound card has been replaced. While that has solved the "hum"(well it did after I found out to disable the old sound card, DOH!)
I am still tweaking my entire system. Not to whine, but my distrust of the current setup was so much that I booked studio time to finish a client job, which then cost me over 20% of my price
However all is not lost, my own personal pet geek is making a house call today(it's amazing the service you can get w/ a 6pack of Sam Adams)and hopefully all will be well within 48 hours. I will keep you all posted.
We now return to our regular program "As the stomach turns".... |

Did you get the hiss resolved? I have found Behringer stuff to be quite noisy and there is not too much you can do about it. EVERY part of the audio chain counts and sometimes the total is getting out of hand. Run the Behringer mixer into a good set of speakers and see how much noise it is inducing, you may be amazed at how much crap that you don't want is coming out of it.
