On the fade out technique, I've wondered if they sometimes to a little "tag" from some yocal and use the 90 percent you gave them. Just a thought.

I fade out before a tag would come in.

Allen-
You are right, this is something that V123 should deal with for us. It would be easy to incorporate something when we upload our demo. That way, the watermark is the same for everyone and standardises it.

I usually change the copy. I try to do it in a way that is so obvious that it doesn't seem like I miss read it, but still an automated system would be much better.

Also this was something we discussed a while back, the idea is great and we´ll probably see something like it on future developments.

We love feedback. Thank you guys.

Hahahaha, I love you too guys. One thing to take on to consideration is that voice123 is currently working on the V2.0 testing, once it is launched there will be more time for new things.

Be patient. ducken

Hello all. I'm nearly ready to begin recording from my home studio. Like many of you, I'm concerned over the security of my audition. I like the advice from others here on watermarking their work -- but am still curious about something. I'm currently using Audacity. If I insert a few random "silences" "white noise" or "tones" (available in the editing menu) -- then make an Mp3 or Wav from it, can it still be "doctored" to sound like the original? I dont think it can. Besides, unlike using fades or word omissions/substitutions, wouldn't this make it a lot easier to retain your original auditon (not submitted to client) and, if approved, use IT for the gig if you get it? Your ideas and feedback welcomed. Thanks, Daniel.

Forget about watermarking. Just give them portions of the script.

I mean, hell, if we can't establish the character in 10 seconds, we're in the wrong end of the business.

Practically, how many of the characters we perform go through any more than one, insipid, stereotypical emotion anyway.....?

I know. I know. Sometimes we'll find a complete script that's fun and we'll give the whole thing "the treatment" so we can get it up on Savvy for our pals to consider.

But, it's still not required for a Seeker..... unless somebody's trying to pull a fast one. (Not that that ever happens....) muede

Daniel

Ronald is 110% right - nevertheless if you feel you need to stick to the "watermark" solution, feel free to send me your watermarked demo. I'ld be happy to send your demo back to you *without* watermark. Maybe this test might convince you that watermarking really isn't the way to go...

Cheers

Thomas

I found that hard to listen to since it was so constant. I thought these watermarks were more of a beep every ten seconds or something like that. I don't like the whole concept though for a few reasons. Don't like to much up the audio firstly and secondly, don't think the client understands it and if they do, thinks you don't trust them. I still subscribe to generic organization names and bogus phone numbers.
About every 10 seconds I just say softly, so it doesn't interfere, but is still audible "Audition". and then I add it as another track on my Audacity Audio Editor.
I just add an additional track where I say softly enough not to interfere, but still noticeable enough where the spot can't be used...."Audition", about once every 10 seconds or so.

Say instead, "Pick Me" softly enough not to interfere!

I just set the compressor to "Oscar the Grouch" remove all of 2kHz and rattle some pots and pans in the background. Wink

No, I do the fade-out. Beeping watermarks are more appropriate for music so that you can't loop it.

Ima Newbie here,

I've read this thread and others like it in the forum. I don't understand the difference between thinking, "If I use an audible watermark, people will think I don't trust them/doesn't look professional/whatever" and changing an address/phone number/etc.

At the end of the day, you're saying that you DON'T trust them and you're trying to protect your work. Isn't doing ANYTHING other than completely reading the script the way its presented the same thing?

Why not record portions of the script on separate tracks, then overlap them by 2-3 seconds?

I agree that having 123 doing something is better.

I'm having trouble believing that clients out there are thinking, "Hey, I can get a demo from 'xxxxx' then we'll spend an hour cleaning it up so we can use it without paying for it."

??
