What do you do to get your voice back after it has been lost?
How do you get over that Cold the quickest and get back to doing what you love?
You get the idea, lets put a good topic together for future dwellers.

Keith,
I guess I will be the first to throw in my snake oil remedies.
1. During the cold & flu season I take an immune system booster (special vitamin).
2. If I feel like something is trying to attack, I start taking Airborne too.
3. Nice warm showers with lots of steam help before you try to vocalize.
Let the water hit the back of your neck and front of your chest. My voice teacher (singing) taught me several of these tricks.
4. Warm non-caffeinated tea, or if you need the caffeine make the tea week. Hey I love my caffeine, but it dehydrates.
5. Humming can gently warm up your vocal cords. That way you won't strain them.
6. I live on cough drops in the winter. They help keep that dry spot in your throat from becoming irritated. Between the dry air from the heat and my own personal allergy gremlins.....I should take out stock in halls.
7. Even if your home has a humidifier on the furnace; buy one from the drug store or discount store and keep it right next to your bed at night. That has really helped me this winter!
8. If all else fails go to Google and look up home remedies.
Have a great day!
Heather

Very Good Info Heather. I never thought of using cough drops without the cough but that makes sense. I just bought a Jimongus bag of Halls from Sam's Club.
I have also used ZICAM in the past. The only problem with using preventatives like ZICAM and Airborne is that you never really know if they worked, if you never get sick. Which in itself is a good thing.
This forum is becoming more and more a treasure of information. In the voice over business with our voice being our stock in trade, knowing how to care for it is very valuable.
PS I am as well in no way promoting particular brands or being paid to advertise for said companies!

Well look at it this way...maybe you never really get sick becuase the airborne did work? I have warded off colds and flu (please note sound of me knocking on wood) for three winters now. I really load up if I am going to fly or be around small children. You kids carry a bunch of stuff!!!
You have to love those HUGE bags of Halls.............

1. Don't get sick
2. If you decide you just HAVE to get sick and its a cough you have. Be sure to hydrate and upon the urge of coughing....try to swallow a few times so your cough is productive. (I stole this from someone and it really works.
3. While you're sick, would you mind getting say about 3000 other VO's sick as well, that way some of us may have a better pick at the jobs.
jk, of course
Stay Well!

Kathleen,
Your brilliant! We could breath into our mics, save it to a file and send it off! Oh, ya, you were kidding.....ME to! But it was a fun thought for a nano second.
Thanks for your input.

I would suggest going out and buying the new Robot GS3000 voiceover.
It only required a short training session
It's very hard to tell it apart from my own voice

Well I visited that site and here's the first paragraph
In general, groups of drugs have documented negative effects on the vocal system are androgens, anabolic steroids, central nervous system stimulants, sedatives, narcotics, tricyclic antidepressants, inhaled steroids, antihistamines, some cardiovascular drugs, and rarely, antianxiety agents (benzodiazepines).
Thank goodness crack, extasy and heroin aren't on the list.
