Hello all,

I am new at voicework, and just got my demo done. I'd love to hear some feedback as I try to get my first job. Any suggestions on finding work (besides staying glued to voice123 24 hours a day)? Thanks!

Scott

Great.
Just what we need, Scott...another pro.
That was just about excellent. My only small complaint would be that each piece ran a couple 'a seconds long.
But it worked anyway, since they were all spot-on.
Well done. Welcome to the snake pit.
As to getting work, there ain't that much to go around.
And with you here....there'll be even less.
Welcome. Well done.
Voice On!

Scott,

Robert posted his reply as I was composing mine. I see our sentiments are the same. Maybe, you suckered us both in with the Canadian spot!

I liked it, Scott, although I would cut the second bit off at "ground". The last clip is a little long but I couldn't see a more logical cut and I loved the ending. It will be even better with more clips in the same time frame once you start getting work!

Good variety, good reads - too bad for the rest of us. Smile

As far as getting work, I'm still waiting for my first voice123 gig, so I can't offer many tips. But, I've only submitted around 400 auditions so far, a drop in the puddle compared to the output of some of the pros around here.

Gary

Scott, I don't usually give critiques...but man....I have to say that was excellent! The only thing I disagree with that has been previously said, is....I don't particularly think any of the clips were too long. They all sounded about just right. I also did not get the feeling like I was wondering when the demo would end. I was fully engaged and made it to the end wanting more. Great job man! Now....you're leaving the english speaking market tomorrow right? I think your services would be better appreciated in South America maybe. hahahahahaha Right on man....welcome to the fray.

Sweet dude! Now leave voice123 cause there is no more room here for people like you...lololol. Its all good. The last spot went slightly long...but it works. You could fit one more spot there. Mondo job. Wink

Wow, thanks for all the kind words...coming from talent like you guys, it really means something. I'm a little disappointed with the number of auditions you need to do to book even one voice123 job, but now that I have a demo, I can start shopping for an agent. Nice to hear we have some fellow Canucks on here! Any suggestions regarding a good agency in the Toronto area? Thanks again.

There's a bit of a Catch-22 to that, Scott, since no agent will even let you in the door unless you're an ACTRA member. And you get to be an ACTRA member by building up performance credits, which you get by landing union jobs, for which you need an agent.
Then, even if you are ACTRA, the voicing patch is a jungle with thousands of voices represented only half-heartedly by a couple of dozen agents.
You will need a track record to catch their ears.
If you're not ACTRA, you will need a glittering track record to catch their ears.
So do not waste too much time trying to land one now. If you do, start with a small agency that specializes in something else - like child actors, birthday clowns, and modeling.
Be their only voice, or one of a few. That way, they will send you to any casting calls that come their way. Also, the Christmas parties are fun.
I suggest you concentrate more on marketing yourself and building up a portfolio. In a year or 18 months, you can take another look at it.
Voice On, eh!
