Hi there,

My name is Matt Dratva and I've been with voices123 for 2 yrs and this is my first posting and I felt it important to share this with the "Newbies" .

I was seriously thinking of attending the voice over International Creative Experience 2007 (VOICE 2007), in Las Vegas Conference until I came across this article,
http://www.toddschick.com/VoiceoverVOICE2007.htm

have a read.............it's quite interesting!

Thank you, Matt.
Thank you, Todd.
I think we've already whipped this carcass elsewhere on these boards.
So...I'm not surprised.
The only place I have ever seen good peer advice offered freely is RIGHT HERE.
One question: do any of those names ever pop up here and contribute comments/critiques?
Three years ago, I sent a demo to one (who had invited same for a FREE evaluation), and he came back with ..."the sound is good. Nice voice. I think it would help you immeasurably to sign up for my weekly voice seminars at $950."

Yeah.

From the person who is involved in this conflict, I only have one comment...

Please spell my name right.

There is no conflict, Frank Frederick.
Really.
But why, for example, are you here so quickly, but never at voiceover Idol or Demo of the Day, where we exchange free feedback and critiques?

That is my only issue.

Robert,

The confilct is not with you specifically, but with Mr. Schick, an interesting fellow.

To answer your question, I recieved a personal email from a fellow Voice123 member about this posting and the site of Mr Schick.

I do not frequent some of the areas on the voiceover Savvy forum, as to be honest, I do not have a lot of time lately. I am putting the finishing touches on VOICE along with all of the VOICE Team. I am also (hopefully) this weekend, finishing writing my book. I also have to take care of an international business I own and operate, as well as the final touches on several other projects - - and I still need to work to pay the bills, just like everyone else.

I have been in this business over 35 years, and when I make comments or offer my services - yes, I do offer them for free, it takes time, and many times it is wiser to allow other members of the forum to share their experiences. I learn a lot from every member of this forum and many others.

If someone does not answer a question or an answer may be mis-leading - I will put my $0.02 worth in.

In answer to a comment you made Robert, and I quote: "One question: do any of those names ever pop up here and contribute comments/critiques?" The answer is YES, many of the Presenters at VOICE 2007 are on this board and offer their help when they are able. And, YES, the answer is no one charges for this advice on this board... but the advice given at VOICE 2007 is worth much more than you are paying.

Free advice is often worth what you pay for it.

Thank you for the comments and the questions Robert.

Mr. Frederick,
Please believe that I am not looking to sling mud in either direction here.
I raised the matter, though, and you responded.
So I must point out that of your 20 posts, only three can in any way be considered as free helpful hints.
The other 17 were very quick responses in defense of Voice 2007.
There's nothing wrong with that. You are a businessman.
But - my goodness! - it take you 312 seconds to jump onto this forum to speak up for Voice 2007.
But for all other matters, issues, queries, questions; well, you're much too busy to comment on individual matters.
Please acknowledge the apparent discrepancy there.

My experience has been that many on this site have been extremely helpful with my questions, all free, in the form of answer to posts, private e-mails, and bless Vic even a phone call, I'd just like to say even a personal e-mail from Frank.

My observation would be, the link to the original poster has an offer for his services for a price, dont you think that was ingenious on his part to bring viewers to his site.

Yes, Lynne...that was ingenious.
But compare please:
Frank Fredericks...nowhere when you Google him, except as a How To author for voiceover wannabes.
Helpful posts: 3

JS Gilbert...frequent appearances when you Google him, notably as a voice artist credited at imdb.com.
Helpful posts: (circa) 55

Hints from Frank and other guests at Las Vgas: lots of $$$.
Hints from JS: free.

Frank and other guests' CD of Las Vegas seminars (for those that cannot make it): $600 plus.
VoiceOverSavvy: priceless.

I hate to seem curmodgeonly.
But - even more - I hate to see any craft feeding off itself.

Kvetch Off!

Robert,

Again, thanks for your views. Apparently you are a fan to keep so close of tabs on my comings and goings.

Also, will someone please spell my name right? In regards to your comment about searching on Google - please note... my search shows 12,583 sites or pages. Please get your facts correct before you make wide allegations.

There are so many facts I would love to list regarding this issue, but this is a waste of time.

Mr. Schick is giving VOICE 2007 more credibility and publicity with his negative comments than I could purchase or afford. There is no reason to comment or cast slings and arrows towards him, he is doing me a favor. Thank you Mr. Schick.

Mr. Jadah, you also are increasing awareness of Frank Frederick and what skills and talents in the voicover industry I am able to offer. Thank you. The publicity is wonderful.

Your negativity is a perk to my business. However it offers little value to everyone else on this forum.

I choose not to fight you (or Mr. Schick or Mr. Dratva). I only wish you well in your endeavors. Be sucessful.

Frank Frederick

Thanks for your opinion... I will not go away, but your anger shows your intelligence.

I appreciate your thoughts, and I will to watch how your career progresses. With your attitude I am sure your will go far.

My question to you is: "What are you afraid of? I am not that scary... well maybe I am.

You guys-- Frank is a wonderful guy. He really doesn't deserve to be beaten up just because he doesn't hang out on a message board. Of course he'll swoop in to defend an attack. That doesn't mean that he's not a credible professional who consistently makes contributions to our industry. If you knew him, you would be jumping to his defense.
