I have been using JBL speakers with separate amp, but have been lulled into a false sense of loudness in playback.

Have been looking at Alesis, can you tell me which would be better for playback from the M-box. I can see difference in size, watt and price, but what is sufficient for voiceover, would these be overkill?

Thanks, Lynne

Lynne, I don't know about the M1 Actives, but I use a pair of these.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-TRUTH-B2031A-Active-Monitors-Pair?sku=600601

They are price friendly, have plenty of power AND they are sold as a PAIR, where the M1's are not. Just thought I'd share a bit Wink

Allen, thanks for the info, I will cross reference the two, however the site I found for the M1 is a pair, list price $499.00 on sale for $199.00 75w
or $399.00 for 100w usually $599.00

You're most welcome! Excellent if you can get 'em in a pair for a good price!

I'm not sure what the model number of your JBL speakers are, but many studios use JBL's becuase they are both a respected name and produce quality sound.

I am thinking that this is an area where learning to trust your speakers and how they work within your audio chain is probably better than investing in new speakers. Most engineers I know wouldn't come close to trading their JBL's in for Alesis.

Yoiu can reference loudness by using headphones connected directly to the M-Box and your software meters.

I can probably show you a dozen places your audio can improve by putting that money into use somewhere else.

You know how it goes, too much information!! I had read that you shouldn't rely on your headphones to edit etc, which I had been doing, so I then changed to listening on the jbl speakers...separate amp unit. Must admit it made editing files much easier, however, being very challenged in the tech arena, I didn't pay close attention to the meters,tut-tut on my part...I am more aware now of what I'm doing (note aware, not proficient), and really like playback for editing via speakers.

And yes, the less I spend on irrelevant equipment the better!

I can't imagine trading in JBL for Alesis. Mackie, yes, Alesis, no. btw - i'm pretty sure "Behringer" is German for "Style over Substance" mho

I have had a pair of KRK Rokit 5s for about two years. They're about 400 a pair (less if you look hard or can haggle at Guitar Center).

I love them, and I'm going to have them until they wear out.

Lynne, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Smile

And at $300 a pair...that's a steal.

So, No to Alesis, looking very like Brad has a winner, have been reading up on KRK.RoKit.., and haven't found anything detrimental as yet!

Thanks for all the input. Very Happy

Lynn,

I also highly recommend the KRK's. I have Behringer 2030's at home, but I run broadcast audio for my church, and we use KRK's in broadcast and in our recording studio, and they sound phenomenal! They're the V8II's, but for a home studio, the RP-5's are a great (not to mention less expensive) choice. I plan on getting a pair to replace my Behringers when bonus time rolls around next month... Very Happy
