All you Harley owners make me SICK! I'm so jealous. My wife was going to buy me the Heritage Softail Classic as my Military retirement present at the end of 2001. 911 happened and she got laid off because the company she worked for relied on Govt contracts and the Govt re-prioritized their spending. The company lost the Govt contracts it depended on and my wife got laid off and she's been a lady of leisure ever since, thus.....no Harley. I just made myself cry....isn't that the saddest story you've EVER heard? lmao

I wonder if there is a twelve step program for it or do we just spend until we're broke? Laughing

Any of you been to Sturgis? I went about 7 years ago. Had a good time. Went with one of my brothers and 2 of my brother-in-laws. We trailered our bikes up and set up camp just outside of town. Stayed only 3 days, but was more then enough to see and do alot. Stopped in Illinois on the way back for a family reunion.Wink

Isn't there some other bike week thing down south by you George? Or is it in Florida?

Never been to Sturgis. I have actually thought about doing that this year too. I have heard it is a lot of fun.

We have a thing here in the Smokey's called the Honda Hoot, but all different types of bikes are there and I lived in Florida and went to Daytona many years.

I really want to try and do some longer multi day rides. that is what has me planning to do this Vegas thing on my bike.

All right you guys, now just STOP it! You're gettin' me all nostalgic and feelin' sorry for myself!

Don't ride any more; half a dozen surgeries after smashing up my arm and wrist in an accident. The pain is so bad and so constant that I just really can't trust myself on the brake or throttle any more. I don't get enough sensory feedback to feel when I'm squeezing the brake or opening up the throttle, until I suddenly either take off like a bat outta hell or stand the stupid bike on its nose.

But I guess I can still dream of being able to just climb on the Fat Boy and take off, whenever I'd like....

Best,
Matt

Okay, my two cents on the biker's thread:

Rode for about 20 years, starting out with a '69 Honda CB350 that I bought when I was 17. It had those rubber knee pads on the side of the tank and was a faded out red; almost pinkish. My friends called me hot-shot Scott on his piece of snot.

Went thru a number of bikes over the years, but my two all-time favs were my brand new 1980 Honda CB750F supersport, and my 1986 Yamaha FJ1200, which I once topped out at an indicated 165mph! Yes, I met God briefly.

Had a horrendous accident on the CB350 where I hit a landscape timber that had apparently fallen off of a truck as I crossed over the Mississippi River Bridge in New Orleans on my way to college one day. Nailed it at about 50 mph and the bike and I said goodbye to each other. Miraculously I survived with only a lot of road rash and a few stitches in my knee.

Gave up the bikes when my first kid came along and a few years ago bought a jet ski (Yamaha wave Raider) which was even better: a motorcycle for the water. We no longer have it, but I'd love to buy a couple more.

Vic: I, too, did a handful of spots for a while for a local Orange County Chopper dealer, Blackjack Motorcycles, but haven't done anything for them in a while.

My next hobby? My wife and I are both dying (no pun intended) to get into powered parachutes!

Scott - My Dad had a '69 CB350 - very cool bike - you're seeing a lot of retro bikes with that look now. I saw what I thought was a 71 Triumph last spring and it was a new Kawasaki that just LOOKED like a Triumph. It was VERY cool. I've had a bike since I was 6 - as a matter of fact I still have that very bike - '71 Honda QA50 - it's in my garage right this minute. It still runs - but has it's "quirks". I raced motocross & enduro in my teens and banged up my knees more than I should have - never a serious accident, though (knock, knock). My favorite bike (that I actually owned) was a '71 Honda CB454 - I bought it at an auction when I was 17 - whoever owned it before had the cylinders bored to a ridiculously large spec with domed pistons and all kinds of other "Dairy Queen" crap added on. Oh yeah - straight pipes. It was a monster and would simply EAT anything on the road. I helped my uncle restore a '47 Indian Chief w/a Suicide Shift about that time - UNBELIEVABLE! He sold it a few years ago - and offered to sell it to me - but - no money in the budget for it ... oh well. MAN I've got spring fever bad - and Pop isn't coming back from Florida til the end of April ... gonna have to re-think this arrangement next year.
