Hello there,

I am attaching a little sound file. I was just messing around with my new mic and fast track. Very Happy I did a slight revision to the Old Irish blessing. Laughing Along with my feeble attempt at an Irish accent....I sure my ancestors are rolling!

So, I can hear some obvious problems but I don't know how to fix them.

I am using Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio 8.0 Any advice, suggestions and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Off the top of my head - I'm gonna say - back off the mic. P, B, T, S - all sounds you're having trouble with - and that whole "wind tunnel" effect with the "W"s is very bad. You have a nice voice but you need to read up on mic technique.

Thanks for the input.

It's a brand new mic, so I am still adjusting. Very Happy

So, let me make sure I understand.... It's more about how I am using the mic? Correct?

Yes. Do you have a pop filter? If not, you will want to get one. Also, talk across the mic, not directly into it. What Todd said too.

I have a foam cover.....

I think I must be way to close to the mic.

Heath,

Get a pop screen when u get a chance. Dont talk directly into the mic. Instead talk into with the mic off to the left or right of you mouth. back off about 4-6 inches. Experiment. It does does sound like your almost there. Wink

Remember, foam is NOT a pop filter, but a windscreen. It doesn't absorb the same way as a pop filter. If your mic placememnt is right, you don't need a pop filter.

George,

I have my Fast Track set on mono; could that be why sound was only coming from the left?

That might just be it.

Most things default to left only when in mono.

So, what is the general consensus......? Mono or stereo and why.

Thank you! Wink

Heather....it's best to record in mono.....for one thing, mics are mono input devices unless you use 2 of them. another thing is, when you submit a file to your client, unless they specify you to do the production, they need your voice file in mono, so they can do their thing with it. There are other technical reasons as well, but mono is how you should be recording your voice. And everyone is correct....when you record mono, it is the left channel. Hope this helps.

Can't you record in mono and then save it in some way that forces it to be played on both speakers?
